They don't have the muscel to fight per se, but they can launch attacks here. They will be coming here regardless of whether we leave Iraq or not, though the war in Iraq has swollen their numbers and provided a training ground for their operatives. What they want to do is pull off another attack on the scale and with the shock value of September 11th again.

Bush uses that scare tactic to intimidate people into giving him his way. "If we don't defeat them 'over there', they'll come 'over here'....." It's a typical lie based on faulty logic.
However, that being said, AlQaeda has 'cells' all over the world, and probably has the ability to wreak considerable havoc on our shores (especially since most of our military prowess is in Iraq). When the head of Homeland Security said that AlQaeda is stronger now than it was before 9-11, he forgot to mention one important fact: AlQaeda is strong now because the U.S.A. has made it stronger. Our bully tactics in Iraq have only served to increase AlQaeda's presence and ranks. More hate us now than did on 9/11, all because of the way Bush unconstitutionally, illegally, unjustifiably and immorally invaded another nation that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the U.S.A. So, it's possible (although not probable) that AlQaeda has the manpower and resources to start a war on our shores.
My concern would be the spoiled, weak, sissified American people. We have become so used to the good things in life, I believe we would cower under the threat of hardship and personal sacrifice. I know people will say that's not the case - we all came together in World War II.
But the nation is different now.
We are too comfortable;too strongly divided between the "liberals" and "conservatives"; incredibly selfish when it comes to our own money and property; more focused on Britney Spears' love life than our country; and too used to watching 'war' on TV instead of actually experiencing it. Just as on 9-11, we watched on TV in horror, but most of us still went out to fancy five-star restaurants that evening and gossiped about it with our friends. Even 9-11 had little impact on our lives.
I don't think America has the hardened underbelly, the discipline or the inner strength to fight a war on our own shores. We'd just expect "the military" to get it over with in a few days. And - if AlQaeda decided to attack us - I doubt it would be over that quickly.
I'd be less concerned about AlQaeda trying to do such a dastardly deed and a lot more concerned about China.

I do not know if we leave Iraq, this is definitely going to happen, but I certainly know that the fear of al-Qaeda is exaggerated, but if we really want to fight them and win the war against them on the long term, there are simple non costly steps to be taken:
1) Try to use our influence with what is called the Allies in the Middle East, to work hard and change their way of running their countries through educational and democratic reforms
2) Try to use our influence to help all voices of freedom in the Middle East (exactly as it appears in our Bill of Rights) and to convince our allies to free all prisoners of human rights in their jails
3) We must open a channel of communications with Syria and Iran, in my opinion their only mistake is they are trying to survive, we are able to contain them and eventually have them to our side
4) Israel must pull out of the occupied territories of June 5th1967
By doing this, we will not spend any money, we will not lose any life, and will have more friends and almost no enemies

They dont have the muscle to fight us in the open anywhere. That is why they resort to terrorist tactics. The as far as them coming to our shore, I believe the argument is that while they are busy getting the crap kicked out of them in their own back yard, they dont have time to expend the effort or resources to conduct a terrorist attack here. Appears to be working. No recent 9/11 type incidents.

Why no, how are they going to get here ,they don't have any planes , ships, tell how are they going to follow us. That is just a excuse old Chimpy usues to some Republicans and they believe, they beleive that weirdo. If you beleive a total idiot then you don't need to be able to vote because what you let steal the White House two terms is the best you got , just dream on. McCain is gone , swift boat firemen got old Rudy, Thompson has so much baggage that they'll throw him out. Thompson young wife just old enough to be his Granddaughter. Tell me what do you have to offer , tell me. Ron Paul he is a good Democrat, that would okay with us.

Oh hell yeah ....they do have the muscle. What does it take? Just a guy strapped with explosives or something parking a truck. they are cowards and do not fight conventional wars. They kill innocent people, that is what they do. If we leave Iraq before they are ready to protect themselves, Al Quada will see that as victory and will indeed come to our shores to show us just how strong they are.

They're already here. Remember 9-11 or the first World Trade Center bombing? The plot to blow up the Lincoln tunnel or the airport?

Not in an open battle, but they can sure do a lot of terrorists things that will kill a lot of people, damage property and frighten people.
Think of what they're doing in Iraq and decide if you'd like that to be happening where you live.

Son, it doesn't take muscle to strap 30 sticks of dynamite with a detonator around your waist and walk into a mall or elementary school- just a demented value system, a satanic belief system, and zero value of human life.

I don't think Al Qaeda knows how to fight the way we know how to fight. they are brutal, sick people and their religion Islam teaches them this.
Al Qaeda is not our only threat from the Middle East and I don't believe that it is the force of their army we should be frightened by but rather the ferocity of their hatred for us.
These are people that beat their women, cut off peoples hands, gouge out eyeballs, stone people to death and strap bombs to children.
They are barely what you could consider human.
Islam is the true enemy and we as Americans had better start to realize that.
