The Way We Were...Barbra Streisand.Especially if I am watching the end of the film. You know that bit where she is standing on a street corner handing out leaflets and he spots her from across the road and comes across and they have a little chat then the song starts playing as the credits roll.I always cry buckets and I have seen the film dozens of times. In fact just thinking about it now I'm filling up ! It's a good job I'm using a keyboard and not writing a letter with an old fashioned fountain pen and proper ink because it would be ruined by now !

Hi!

Here are just a few:

1: The Ballad of Lucy Jordon - Marianne Faithful. Why Dr. Hook covered this is beyond me and shows a marked lack of grasp of what the song is about.

2: Seasons in the Sun - only when sung by Rod McEwan who wrote it. You hear the singer die in his version.

3: Green Fields of France (AKA: Willy McBride / No-man's Land).

4: My Youngest Son Came Home Today - another Eric Bogel song.

5: Rat-Trap - The Boom-town Rats. Brilliant lyrics!

Good wishes.

version seems totally to miss the point of the song. Why would men How could men think they have any rjust makes me wonder why they feel they have any authenticity singing a woman's protest song.

Good wishes.

When I'm hung over, almost anything can, but especially...

Warszawa by David Bowie
Sanvaen and As The Bell Rings.. by Dead Can Dance
The Woods and Rivers are Silent by Mediaeval Baebes
Perfect Circle by REM
A lot of Scottish folk songs do that (but I can't think which ones at the moment)

and live tracks where audiences scream inexplicably can do that for me, I don't know why

Agadoo by Black Lace reduces me to tears every time I hear it.

Seriously though, I worked for a company once in a job I absolutely loved. The best bunch of people you could ever hope to work with. I decided it was my 'job for life'.

They called an all-staff meeting one day (20th November 2000, as it goes) in which they proceeded to tell us we were closing down and we were all to be made redundant. When we eventually trudged back to our desks in shock, my radio was playing 'Don't Give Up' by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.
And what was the line that was playing?
" For every job so many men, so many men no-one needs."
Yes, I shed a tear when I heard that.

"Love, Me" by Collin Raye
"Christmas Shoes" by NewSong
"When She Loved Me" by Randy Newman, sung by Sarah McLachlan
"Angel Down" by Fairchild

"Angel Down" is the most moving of all to me because I met Connie Fairchild and her husband David Torretta when I lived in St. Louis and I know the story behind it. They had a son named Sam who was born with severe birth defects and was never able to walk or talk. He died at an early age, about 4 years old I think. When Connie was interviewed by a local reporter after his death, she said, "He was an angel." I get a lump in my throat every time I hear her sing the words, "You sang a perfect song, never making a sound", because I know exactly what it's about.

The amazing thing is that through all that adversity, they never lost their faith or gave in to self-pity. The song is a heavily gospel-influenced song of hope and faith that they'll someday be reunited in Heaven. That's even more touching than despair or self-pity would have been.
