Try to find something that interest him, for example if he likes watching movie then ask him to go to movie sometimes together. Or, if he likes to read or collect book you can accompany him to library. By doing that, I am sure he will be pleased spending time with you.

When me and my husband talk too much we have nothing to talk about by the end of the day. Don't be on the phone to just be on the phone. The fewer calls you have the more interesting things you'll have to say to each other. You've probably out talked each other

It doesn't sound like you are a particularly good match. If you have sparkling conversations with other people, move on to someone with more connection and common interests. If you have a hard time holding a good conversation with anyone, you may want to work on this skill.
