Do you think these two are always synonymous?

Not by a long shot. Einstein was well known for always losing one sock. Seriously, not making this up. They are two very different things. Plus, I find people with high IQ's tend to be the most impractical.

I'm going with no. A High IQ means the person learns and retains information well, especially verbal and mathematical skills. To me, common sense is more of a problem solving skill. You can be the most intelligent person in the world, but if you can't
1 - identify and define the problem
2 - gather information
3 - evaluate the infomation
4 - come up with a plan
5 - impliment the plan

then you just can't really get through even simple problems. To me, that is common sense.

They are two distinct concepts, IQ being measurable intelligence - common sense being totally subjective to what one perceives as a mutual understanding in society.

By this measure, people who come from outside the society may lack "common sense", irregardless of how smart they are. A person moving to the United States from the Ivory Coast may have no clue what a dishwasher is or how it works - something many would consider "common sense".

Anyone can be said to be lacking common sense if they are out of their social element. Its another word for being square.

Nothing is going to be "always" - but I think having a high IQ shows the potential for absorbing.. and using data/info.. so I would say it is better to be wise & informed.. rather than ignorant but supposedly loaded with "common sense"... ;- )

Definately not. I know plenty of people with IQs off the charts who have no common sense what so ever. They are very different forms of intelligence.

No. Only extremely stupid people are blessed with common sense. High IQ is mutually exclusive with common sense.

No. Look at most geniuses. Most of them have tendencies and behavioral patterns that make people label them as nut cases!
