Like back in the late 80's and early to mid 90's TV was at its best...all kinds of great sitcoms were available and more family oriented...

Now all we see on tv is reality shows and bland sitcoms that get cancelled after six episodes and it sucks!

I was sad to see Andy Barker, PI cancelled. I still love My Name Is Earl, House, Ugly Betty..... you don't really think Alf was funny, do you? Didja walk 15 miles to school through 15 miles a snow, 15 days a week? (I think I'm older than you, so don't go calling me a cheeky whippersnapper, now...)

The Office and Scrubs are pretty good, and they're going strong. Arrested Development was arguably the best show ever aired. I'm sure there were duds back then, too, we just don't remember them. It'll be the same in a few years. There aren't as many hits because producers know they can make money easier and faster with reality shows, but there's always some good. Just don't support the crappy shows and they'll move on. "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" is on Fox instead of "Arrested Development" because it gets better ratings. Just the world we live in. Once the viewers smarten up, so will the networks.

Because the TV execs lack the creativity to come up with something new and fresh.

It's not only TV shows that are suffering, but cartoons and toys as well. For example, look at how they are bringing back toys like Care Bears, Transformers, Star Wars, etc. because they know they are a good product line.

I too think the TV shows nowadays stink, except for a few like the "CSI" series and "Law & Order" which seem to cater to a more inquisitive audience. Other shows such as reality shows give me the impression that TV execs think the majority of TV watchers are dumb and shallow.

It really boils down to a lack of creative writing talent combined with an every competitive marketplace that tries to be all things to all people.

Great shows like Firefly get canceled after a few episodes. Terrible shows like America's Got Talent last for multiple seasons.

With the growth of technology, however, we're going to see a change in the way TV is produced and marketed from a "push" to a "pull" technology. We'll be streaming video on demand in the very near future. Hopefully that will create a marketplace for good shows that don't appeal the lowest common denominator.

Yes...give us back Al Bundy, Sledgehammer, Perfect Stangers, why does every sitcom have to take place in a living room? I loathe TV these days. Reality TV is really annoying too...I never liked game shows too much from any period, but man the ones they have on now are not worth the time it took to think them up...I could not agree with you more!!

I love Roseanne! I watch the re-runs every morning before work for an hour! My favorite new show is Prison Break. Plus I think directors are just lazy and the public is too interested with reality tv.

I couldn't agree with you more. I was a young kid in the late 80's and early 90's.

The lack of creative genius...
Why try to think of something new and exciting when you can keep feeding people the same junk over and over?

There will never be a one-liner quite as good as Groucho Marx.
