Thank you, thank you, thank you for asking this question!!! I hate them and I think they are a terrible way for a family to memorialize a loved one. Faded fake flowers, wilted balloons and cardboard crosses are tacky and I find it disturbing to look at them. Why on earth would a family want to mark the spot where someone they loved got obliterated I mean come on! Plant a tree or a rose bush in their honor or do something constructive like start a scholarship in their name! Please America, let's stop this nonsense!

People put them up in my area too and I find them painful. They disturb me on a level that I can't even connect with. I would never put one up and I would not want to be reminded every time I passed the spot where a loved one died. I feel bad for you - suicide is a very difficult thing to deal with and I hope you have the help you need. take care. I agree - thank you for asking this question... I thought it was just me that hated them..

They are painful reminders of how dangerous it can be out there, but I think it's great that their family and friends care enough to give us that reminder in honor of their loved ones.

Needless to say they do not have them in Chicago. So I did
not grow up with them. When I saw them the first time. I thought they were poignant and sad. But like other memorials
maybe they help solidify loss, so that it does not envelope them.

Yes. I think that they are a little bit inconsiderate to people's feelings (such as yours.) I also think they're a dumb idea because how are you supposed to have a funeral on the side of the road?!?
BTW- I'm a New Yorker.

Yeah, we have them, there's even a law about vandalizing or disturbing them. They really don't bother me that much, probably because I see so many of them everywhere I go in NM....

I can't imagine doing that myself, especially if I had to pass by there frequently. I don't think they belong there; that's what cemeteries are for.
BTW, I'm very sorry for your loss, especially in that way.
