He has a really good shot. As long as he stays healthy, he will pass 3000 easy. Then it's just a matter of playing another 3 or 4 years.

I do believe he will get to 3500 and should surpass.

Well one thing you know about Jeter are the things that aren't going to hold him back... pressure, the press, the hype, or anything mental, etc. The only thing that would hold him would be a physical issue, basically an injury. I believe he holds himself to a high standard of play and much like players roger clemens will just increase his work ethic to keep up with the demands age will put on his body. he is showing no signs of slowing down and should have won the MVP last year. (he also got his second highest amount of hits). I'd expect him to continue to average around 200 hits for the next 3 to 4 years which would put him over 3000. Then he would definitely have a couple more years in the tank, can't see him stopping before 40 unless of wither injury or sudden retirement or something. Odds are I'd say he'll do it. He's the captain and he's got to be hungry for another championship since 2000. He'd try to hit 3500 in one season if thats what it would take to get the yankees back there again. Very nice question, thought provoking.

well he is at 2200 right now, so in order to get 3,000 he will need 4 more 200 hit seasons. Which is very possible. He is 33 right now, at the end of that streak he would be 37. At this age, and even before it, I would expect his number to start to decline, espessially considering the type of player he is. He relies so much on his athleticism and quickness.
So the real question is at the age of 37 can jeter get 500 more hits? ThaT would keep jeter playing until he is 40, which i believe he has the work ethic to do if he wants to.
But lets remember, Jeter has allready won championships and proven everything he has had to prove. I dont see him being the type of player to stick around as we watch him slowley decline. I think jeter will retire before he gets to 3500, one because he wants to go out at the top of his game, and two I dont htink he will be as effective at shorstop when he is in his late 30's. So can he finish with 3500 hits? Probably. Will he? I dont think so

well, if you forget about this season so far Derek Jeter was 32 at the end of last season. He had a total of 2150 hits then. If he plays until he is 40, he will need to average slightly over 168 hits a season for his 8 remaining seasons. He has done that 10 out of his 12 seasons which is 83% of the time. So, if you use that rate of success, it will take him about 10 seasons to do that. He will be on the verge on being 42 years old by the time that that happens. So, I doubt that he can maintain that pace, so I think he will get about 3300 hits for his career. Yes, I did all the statistics myself.

4,000? definitely no longer. Jeter is at 2,888 hits top now, and he's 36 years previous. He could require a million,112 extra hits to realize 4,000. to place that for the duration of attitude, if Jeter averaged a hundred and seventy hits according to season (a stable variety of hits for a known), he could prefer to play extra beneficial than 6 extra comprehensive seasons to realize 4,000. meaning he could prefer to maintain hitting at a extreme point till age 40 two or 40 3. Now, some gamers (including Julio Franco and Omar Vizquel) can shop enjoying into their 40s, yet they under no circumstances safeguard their previous ranges of production. If Jeter continues to be around at age 40 two, he would be fortunate to be amassing one hundred hits according to twelve months as a ingredient timer (lots as Vizquel is for the White Sox). 3,500 hits is a threat for Jeter, yet 4,000 is out of the question. some others who could make 3,000 (off the ideal of my head): Albert Pujols, Ichiro Suzuki, Todd Helton (on condition that he heavily rebounds from his contemporary undesirable years), and A-Rod all have of undertaking to make 3,000 interior the subsequent 5 years. With the extra youthful gamers like Joe Mauer, it is lots too early to tell, on account which you under no circumstances recognize if injuries or different factors will intervene.

I don't think he can. It's a long way off. He is only at 2200 right now. I hope he does but we'll see.
