...... :
Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done.
And I am Caesar. --(Julius Caesar)

Oops, I am sorry, you guys are right.
The quote really isn't from Julies Cesar, but it still rings true no matter who said it. :)

This war is born of vengeance. Well justified, but wrong all the same. Can anyone honestly tell me that taking the life of another is right, regardless of what they did?
Yes this sounds exactly like Bush, and Tony Blair. You sure it didn't come from some of their paperwork?
A few thousand US troops. Good men and women who have died for this war.
A couple hundred UK troops. Once again, good soldiers who were doing their jobs, as directed, and died.
Nearly 3/4 of a million innocent Iraqi civilians, who died for no purpose whatsoever, because they were near the place where the bombs came.
None of the lives lost in this war were lost to the vengeance that drives it. Every one of them was innocent.
NOW tell me it's right.

why aren't our other elected officials doing our bidding? why isn't the senate keeping spending under control? why won't our senators release their spending proposals on "pet projects" to CNN and why do our legislators have a 12% voter approval rating?
very few people trust politicians to do the right thing. Bush 43 has twice the approval rating of the senate and congress so what does that say about the current state of US politics? To make matters worse, 95% of the legislature will be reelected with their12% approval rating, but voters think THEIR senator is doing a good job. YOUR senator is the one screwing things up.
Tell me how that works?
If you vote for a Democrat OR a Republican this election you're part of the problem, not part of the solution.
If you reelect your senator or congressman you are perpetuating the problem. There are only a handful of people in politics who are concerned about America, and even fewer who are concerned about you and me (but lots who are concerned about themselves and reelection)
as for your quote the words "patriotism" and "citizenry" were unknown in Elizabethan England (the quote once being attributed to Shakespears play "Julius Caesar" by nut fringe socialist Babs Streisand). The Bard's Julius Caesar spoke in iambic pentameter, not mediocre prose. There's little likelihood of ascertaining who did write this politically convenient baloney, but we know it wasn't Shakespeare and we can be reasonably sure it wasn't Julius Caesar. This quote did not appear anywhere before 2001. It does, however, bear all the markings of a "classic" Internet hoax.

It resembles what he thought he was doing. Not realizing that you can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all the time.. If you notice just before the vote on the pullout, who's picture resurfaced. Non other than Osammy Ben Laden. Use of fear sometimes awaken that which you should have left sleep. Fear tactics only work on those that are afraid.

George B.F. Bush, is doing this. I don't know if you are into potilics, but you really need to look at some of the Presidential directives that this ****, has passed. Without the approval of Congress, go and look at the news, at the White House site, on May 20th, 2007, and he is not trying to blind the Iraqis', for he has already blinded us. And the true question is, what can we do about it?

I'm not an expert on Roman history, but Caesar -- unlike his successors -- did not ride the coattails of relatives into power. So it's hardly a complete match.

yes, very much so.
Caeser is referring to the threat he created in order to wage war against barbarians in Gaul. This quote can be applied to the war in iraq.

Bush is not doing that, heck when he was asked what he thought of comments from the Dixie Chicks, his only response was "that's their opinion."
