I understand that friday the 13th is a "black friday", and I also understand the day after friday can also be considered "Black firday" and a few other days. I just want to trace back the unlucky "13". Someone once told me it was because of a racist reaction to the thirtenth amendment. Supposidly there were many racist acts on friday the 13th in rebelion. I'm looking to possibly trace back the unlucky 13th before the the slave era. I'm not looking for myths or ledgens, but facts in history. Thank you!

FYI ... there are about 11 full moons each year, with one blue moon happening about every 2 1/2 years... although there may be 13 full moons in one year it does not happen every year, therefore the statement about the 13 full moons each year is false.

no one knows for sure, but we do know that the number 13 has been considered unlucky for thousands of years. the ancient Babylonians are the earliest known people to believe that the number 13 were unlucky. the ancients were so convinced of this that when they came up with the astrological signs, they actually ignored a constellations so that their wouldn't be 13. some people believe that 13 was unlucky because 12 was lucky and one more was bad. another theory is that if you count up your 10 fingers and two feet you get 12 and one more would be the unlucky 13.
as for why Friday the thirteenth is unlucky, all Fridays used to be considered unlucky, the 13th was just more so. however when we went to a five day work week, Friday became the start of the weekend and became a good thing. that is with the exception of Friday the 13th.

The reason is because there were supposed to be thirteen people at the last supper. The supper after which Christ was betrayed and crucified. Thus it is accociated with the doing of a great evil in the eyes of our society. But there is a deeper reason which stretches back great antiquety. That instead of being twelve signs of the zodiac, there was a thirteenth-the sign of Alphiortes-the serpent. For some reason this was discarded, possibly because twelve is a much better dividing and orginisating number, and thus it developed the myth of the evil serpent and of the unlucky number-13.
So because it was considered, Christ's execution day, unlucky and associated with the number of people at the last supper-Judas supposingly being the 13th. And also because of that 13th sign of the zodiac which was abondoned and thus became by myth-unlucky. And there are some very old myths about the long time ago struggle between good and evil with evil being associated with the serpent. And it is interesting to note that it was a serpent that tempted Eve in the garden. So it has nothing whatsoever to do with the 13th ammendment. Rather the thirteenth ammendment would be considered by some unlucky, not because of any racial reason, but because of the previously considered unlucky number- 13. Hope this helps.

A Friday occurring on the 13th day of any month is considered to be a day of bad luck in English, German, Polish and Portuguese-speaking cultures around the globe. Similar superstitions exist in some other traditions. In Greece or Spain, for example, Tuesday the 13th takes the same role. The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia (a word that is derived from the concatenation of the Greek words Παρασκευή, δεκατρείς, and φοβία, meaning Friday, thirteen, and phobia respectively; alternative spellings include paraskevodekatriaphobia or paraskevidekatriaphobia) or triskaidekaphobia, and is a specialized form of triskaidekaphobia, a phobia (fear) of the number thirteen.
No historical date has been verifiably identified as the origin of the superstition. Before the 20th century, although there is evidence that the number 13 was considered unlucky, and Friday was considered unlucky, there was no link between them. The first documented mention of a "Friday the 13th" is generally listed as occurring in the early 1900's.[1][2][3]
However, many popular stories exist about the origin of the concept:
The Last Supper which is supposed by popular Christian belief to have been on Thursday, with Judas numbered among the thirteen guests (Jesus plus his 12 apostles), and that the Crucifixion of Jesus which is supposed by popular Christian belief to have occurred on a Friday. However, Judas was not actually present for the latter part of the meal.
One theory, offered in the novel Foucault's Pendulum holds that it came about not as the result of a convergence, but a catastrophe, a single historical event that happened nearly 700 years ago. The catastrophe was the decimation of the Knights Templar, the legendary order of "warrior monks" formed during the Christian Crusades to combat Islam. Renowned as a fighting force for 200 years, by the 1300s the order had grown so pervasive and powerful it was perceived as a political threat by kings and popes alike and brought down by a church-state conspiracy, as recounted by Katharine Kurtz in Tales of the Knights Templar

As I can see, fridays and number 13 is considered unlucky by christians ( europe and US ). Today, some people in some non-christians countries belive this unlucky day and number because of What they see in TV. But it is originally come from christians.
The prophet of islam ( muslums ) Muhammed born in 571. 5+7+1=13. And he made a prophecy about conquest of Istanbul ( old Constantinapol of Byzantine which is legacy of Great Roman Empire and Roman Empire is considered the ancestor of today europe civilizations). He sad a powerful muslum commander and his troops will conquer Istanbul. That happened in 1453. 1+4+5+3=13
The Sultan ( originally called Padisah ) of Ottoman Empire Fatih ( Conquerer ) Sultan Mehmet conqured istanbul by moving ships over the land on oiled logs to the halic sea ( golden horn ) because of the big chain which crosses the Halic sea to prevent passing ships.
And Fridays are holy days for muslims all over the world.
Because of these facts 13 and firday is considered unlucky.
I am not sure that is becaue of these but I heard ( or red ) it from somewhere that I can't remember where.

It is because there are 13 full moons in a year. And old pagan religions around the world considered these holy days (and therefore the number 13 was holy). When patriarchal religions began taking over, of course that meant that they turned it around, and claimed the number 13 was evil.

Look up the fall of the Knights Templar for greater detail, but their safehouses were raided and they were rounded up for inquisition and, later, execution on Friday, October 13...I can't recall the year right now...
