Depends on what you mean by cruel. In the early 1970s, I worked for the Amphibian Facility of the University of Michigan. I was its secretary, and very nervous whenever I went to the lab, for fear I'd see something to gross me out. But Dr. Nace made a point to explain that they only use animals for experiments when they have reached a stage of development where there is no choice. There are strict protocols about the design of the experiment, with a review board to assure that the animals suffer no more pain than absolutely necessary. Of course, we then come to the question of what is really necessary. To Dr. Nace, the point was where a human being might suffer unnecessarily.
Of course, cold-blooded frogs and warm-blooded monkeys or dogs or cats are quite two different things. It would seem that again necessity is the rule, but personally, I could never do such a job. I am grateful to the people who do, to the extent it really is necessary, because it means we get new medical breakthroughs that save lives and restore health. But I could not do it.
Now we come to the question of a person who could be cruel without necessity. To me, that is evidence of a very, very sick mind. When I worked for the state Attorney General's office, I once had to type up the statement of facts in the prosecution of a vampire and cannibal. He started out torturing animals as a child.
P.S. Is that true about President Bush? Because if so, I am really, really frightened.

They say that cruelty to animals is a BIG red flag. Most people who can be cruel to animals are capable of cruelty to human beings too. A lot of sociopaths start out torturing animals and them move on. Sick sick sick.

I agree with *Star*. I don't see how anyone could be cruel to an animal.
There's a rabbit that lives under my shed and my uncle who lives across the street keeps saying that he will kill it. at my sister's graduation party, he brought a rabbit's foot over for me and said that it was from that rabbit. he makes me sick.

I have no idea. I am an animal lover through and through. I even cry when I see something has been hit on the road.
I cannot stand when I see stories about these punk kids that hurt little animals, they are sick.

A sick mentally deranged person, something weak to them that they know they can overwhelm as an adult would abuse a child, because the victim cant fight back. I can think of alot of cruel things to do to people like that.

Ask your President. In the book, "Bush on the Couch" a psychiatrist looked into Bush's past and found that when he was young he used to get his kicks by torturing animals. Sort of makes you understand why he is doing the same to this country.
