The Washington Redskins, hands down. They not only use a group of humans to be their mascot, they use a racial slur to do it.
"Redskin" is a racial taunt just like "N!**ER". It's not a nickname, a tribe name, or a pet name, it's a slur.

There are no racist nicknames in the NFL or College. Arguments can swing both ways for every name out there.

I don't think the naming of sports teams: Redskins, Braves, are demeaning to Native Americans as long as each team embraces the tribe of that nation like FSU does.

In college, the nickname of the Seminoles is used with official sanction of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The tribe somewhat make decisions or recommendations on the uniforms, mascot, and more. FYI. The Braves stole the gesture known as the "tomahawk chop from Florida State after Deion Sanders played their.

What about the fighting Irish of Notre Dame? Racist?
Notre Dame's The Fighting Irish nickname is inherited from Irish immigrant soldiers who fought in the Civil War with the Union's Irish Brigade. I hate ND!

There could be argument for the Cowboys, the Buccaneers, and the Raiders because each are associated with some form of violence in history.

Everyone should accept the names for what they are names given to sports teams based on history of the United States.

That is easy. The Boston Celtics. If the Redskin team nickname is "racist", then the Boston nickname is far worse. A red haired, fair skinned race in a city where "Southie" is considered to be anti anything black. At least in Washington there is no anti Native American bias.
Truly, however, one is as asinine as the other.

Redskins. To the one who said it was a tribute go call some Native American a Redskin and see how they take it. I'm not saying they will kill you or attack you but I'm sure you will get an angry look. Mind you I mean a TRUE Native American not just some friend of yours who has some Native blood. Rather one that is like full-blooded or most AND you don't know.
Also the Braves IS offensive to me, and I am not a Native American. The reason that it is offensive is because they don't respect the effort it takes to become a brave. That wasn't just anyone, that was a warrior type rank that you had to EARN. Although doesn't matter in the case of Atl. because they are cursed by the Native Americans until they end that TRULY RACIST Tomahawk Chop.

Ok how is Ole Miss Rebels a racist name? Mississippi was in the Confederacy in the War of the States/Civil War. The Southern soldiers were commonly called the Rebels and Johnny Reb. So what is the racist aspect unless it is black players who are racist because most of the Rebels were white.

It's only racist if it's used in a negative manner. It's just a team name for crying out loud. None of the teams use them in a negative manner, so none of them are racist.

I think a lot is made out of something that is not a big deal...Nicknames are just that...Nicknames...Whether its Redskins, Seminoles, Indians...They are just nicknames...No one has demanded that the Yankees change their name...yet, it is sort of a stereotype nickname to people up north...

I really don't buy into that theory that some of the names of sports teams are racist, If anything i think that teams like the Redskins,Braves, etc. pay homage to the American indian.

They aren't racist they play the games they play to be champions and not to disrespect the schools mascot names. If anything it should be a honor to be a nickname/mascot of sports teams.
