I really need to get a job this summer, but I don't have time to get a "normal" summer job working fast food or at the movies or whatever. So I'm thinking about petsitting. The problem is I don't know ANYONE. I don't belong to a youth group or any kind of place where I might meet people who need a petsitter. So my question is, would you actually call someone that you see advertised on a bulletin board in the library or whatever. I really don't know. If you saw a flyer for a petsitter, what would you like to see on it? If you wouldn't call someone off a bulletin board, do you have any suggestions of where I can find customers? Thanks everyone!

If I saw your ad on a bulletin board and needed a pet sitter, I would call you and set up an interview with you. I would have you meet my pets and see how you interact with them. I would not ignore your ad, but if I did not like or trust you after the meeting, I would not hire you. I think you should just put ads up all over the place and I bet people will respond to you. Good luck, and sounds like a fun job!

I would suggest hooking up with a pet sitting or dog walking/doggie day care organization and working for them. If you are an inexperienced teenager looking for a summer job, I don't know how many people would trust you with their animals, or the keys to their homes.

I hate to tell you this but I wouldn't trust a complete stranger to take care of my pets. Its nothing personal but its really hard to trust your babies with someone you don't know. Maybe you could be a dog walker or something like that instead.

Pet sitting is a big responsibility. Other than caring for your own animals, have you received any formal training? Do you have references? You sometimes have to go into people's homes when they are away. Do you have liability insurance? If you are going to run the business from your home, rather than going to people's homes, is your property zoned for business? Do you have a business license from your town?

I don't think I would call someone off a bulliten board unless I knew them.....if I don't know the person I wouldn't know if they would treat my pets good or whatever.

start with friends and family. surely u know someone with a pet. ask them to refer u to their friends and family. that's usually your best bet for starting out. still put up flyers cuz every little bit of advertisement counts.
