Whenever my computer is disconnected from the internet (like when i disconnect it from the router) and I open a folder (any folder, say My Documents), internet explorer opens at least 50 i.e. windows at the same time. my computer lags and this is what it looks like:

the 50 i.e. windows all have the same url on the address bar (although i don't recommend for anyone to click it. i don't want this to happen to you guys too):

How do I stop i.e. from doing this? I've tried Norton, Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy, Ewido, & AVG Anti-Spyware, and even have Zone Alarm installed on my computer. They all failed me (grr!)

This indicates that your p.c has been badly infected my spy wares and ad wares, maybe even virus attack,Norton is not a very good anti virus,if you have a ram less than 500MB then i suggest you get AVG free from download.com and if you have a ram 1GB or more download PC CILLIN which is a very good anti virus and stops these sort of errors right away after you perform a scan.

Other than that there are other simple ways to keep your p.c clean and running smoothly so that such incidents dont occur again...

1>Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Disk clean up

2>Open internet explorer,at the top, look for TOOLS,left click and chose "options" then clear cookies

3>Start-Settings-Control Panel-Windows Firewall-make sure its on.

4>download Ccleaner.its a very small program with simple usage but very efficient and useful when it comes to deleting trash off your pc such as broken downloads, dll's,startup list, safe uninstall, issues and other stuff.Im providing you with a link to a site from where you can download Ccleaner

I take it you probably didn't turn system restore off, before running these programs. Or you still vist the same sites. I had a roommate who gave me a nasty headache everytime he used it, especially when on myspace.

Ad-aware SE 1.06 (2007 version a little buggy still), AVG spyware/malware scanner (Free), and CCleaner. Use these 3 with System restore turned off. You may have to restart to remove everything. Also make sure Windows is upto date.

When you use CCleaner it has several useful options. First
run the cleaner (analyze and clean you PC), then select issues and scan for issues. You will have to do this until there are no more issues (3-4 times sometimes), then goto tools and use this to verify you don't have any programs you do not want installed. Like add/remove without the long load time. You can also delete items from the starting up here.

Good Luck....hope this helps!

P.S. A great product to have that is good is Spyware Blaster... http://www.filehippo.com/download/aa8288da69f9c14e0ada01f0e58fa0a4/download/
Hijackthis is also very good, but I recommend you run it and upload the logfile here for someone to help you with it!

You've got spyware/malware. Boot the computer into safe mode and try running AVG, Adaware, Spybot again.

If your at all technical, get a program called hijack this. This will enable you to track down the source, but it's not for the technically challenged.

If push comes to shove you can pay someone like Geeksquad to clean it up or just reformat the HDD and start over.
