1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (or in England the Philosopher's Stone)

2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner from Askaban

4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix

6. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

So as you can see there are a total of 7 Harry Potter books, but the seventh comes out on the 21st of July, 2007. So far my favorite book is the 6th but I guess it is because I have read all of the books thus far and it just seems like thay just add up all together to make one huge long story. I hope this helps, and I really reccomend reading all of them so that everything makes sense when you get to the most recent books!

There are 7 books:

1.Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
2.Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
3.Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
4.Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
5.Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
6.Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
7.Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows (comes out July 21st, 2007 at 12:01 in the US)

my favorite book would have to be the 6th one, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. i don't know why exactly, but i just love it. but i have a feeling that i will love the 7th one, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows when it comes out!

Once again, the first question has been adequately answered, so I will do the others.

My favorites are 3-6.
I would reccomend the books to anyone who reads fantasy, or is looking for something different. JK Rowling is very gifted at making the characters come alive before your very eyes. The books mature as the characters do, and the plot line thickens, making you want to come back for more and more. The movies complement the books, but only if you read the books first. I think that watching the movies after reading the books makes it easier for me to imagine the stories while I read. The books are for anyone who is an avid reader.

Since most of it was answered above, i will just answer your final question...HIGHLY recommended, there is so much more in the books than the movies. They are super addictive. Book 4- and Book 6 are my favs. Can't wait for book 7 even if it is the end!

EDIT** Even though you saw the movies, still read the books. You can safely start at book 3. The first 2 books are identical to the movies, so you won't really miss anything.

1. HP & the Sorcerer's Stone
2. HP & the Chamber of Secrets
3. HP & the Prisoner of Azcaban
4. HP & the Goblet of Fire
5. HP & the Order of the Phoenix
6. HP & the Half Blooded Prince
7. HP & the Deathly Hallows

My favorite would be the Order of the Phoenix. Even though it was a bit difficult to understand for me, it's the one that holds most of the truth about Harry and Voldemort. I would reccommend this series to anyone. They're beautiful books in which one can open up their imagination. They're very fun and entertaining.
