in the past this was true, however, all irons are required to have ground prongs on the plugs now, no danger of shock anymore.

There is no difference between an iron and other electrical appliances in this regard. The only danger would be if you were standing on a surface which conducts electricity (metal or a very wet floor.) There would have to be something wrong with the wiring in your iron. Also you would have to be touching the metal part of your iron. It would be nearly impossible for all of these conditions to exist and for your iron to electrocute you.
You win the bet!

Maybe back in the olden days when they didn't have ground prongs or circuit breakers or anykind of modern safety measures. Although I guess you could drop the hot iron on your barefoot and get burned but that's pretty much pushing the danger bet. Most people who burn themselves with irons it's usually their finger that gets burned. By her logic should they wear welder's gloves while ironing too?

What? Never heard of this. If it is supposed to be dangerous because of the dropping/burn factor - are you supposed to wear steel toed boots? If it is electricution, you would have to be standing in a puddle while your iron is seriously malfuntioning or it would not grounded for some reason. What about hairdryer curling iron?

yeah- and iron falling on your foot is a posibility. I wouldn't help a friend move barefoot, and I wouldn't be barefoot under a heavy iron. Those boards are darn shaky.

If you drop the iron accidentally it could fall on your foot causing a burn on your foot.....there is a BIG burn mark in our carpet from when I tried ironing.....good thing it wasn't my foot!
Sorry but your mother in law is right....you'll get her next time!

I don't know what danger it could cause as you could burn your hand or arm easier then your foot. I would ask your mil
for more facts to back up this statement.
