Since so many people have been so vocal about why they hate the President, I thought I would just offer the following. I like President Bush, even though I don’t always agree with his positions. Here’s why:

1. The man is guileless. Unlike many politicians who do their best to appeal to as
many people as possible (and thus, keep their “approval ratings” up), George
Bush says exactly what he believes. I don’t always agree with his positions or
actions, but I like the fact that I always know where he stands.

2. He is a lousy public speaker and has zero personal charisma. Why are these good characteristics for a president? Because the opposite is so dangerous. I am suspicious of politicians who are skilled at the art of rhetoric. Such people can make you feel good about almost anything (John Kerry is the ultimate example here). With George Bush, it is all about his ideas and actions… not how he packages them because, obviously, he isn’t very good at salesmanship.

3. He has had personal problems, and he has overcome them. Much has been made of the fact that the young George Bush engaged in a great deal of self-destructive behavior. But, personally, I have always admired people who realized that they were going down the wrong path, and got their act together.

4. He is accomplished and well-educated. B.A in history from Yale, and a MBA from Harvard. The first president to ever hold that degree. The fact that he was a F-102 pilot in the Texas Guard (and by all accounts, a very good one) demonstrates that, despite the constant jabbering about his perceived “lack of intelligence”, he is indeed a smart man. Harvard doesn’t just hand out MBA’s, and any pilot will tell you that flying fighter jets isn’t an occupation for a stupid person. My suspicion is that those who believe the president to be “stupid” are confusing oratorical ability with “intelligence”.

5. The man conducts himself with dignity. Despite the constant personal attacks, the willful misrepresentations, and the cheap shots from people across the nation, George Bush doesn’t strike back. He simply goes about his business doing the best he can at the most difficult job on earth (and at what might very well be the most difficult time to hold that job).

6. No terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since 2001. If we blame him for everything else, then shouldn’t he get the credit for that?

He's been pretty good. I have been behind him on the war from the beginning. The concept anyways. The handeling, and PR work that goes along with it, I think is his downfall for the war. Immigration policy stinks though. Economy, unemployment has there ever been better?

He gets a B+ in my book.

Unfortunately, I can't see the Additional Details in this screen, but you included

"Doesn't strike back."

On what planet have you been living?

He has repeatedly labeled every person who disagrees with him as a terrorist who hates America.

No, he not only does not have many (or any) admirable traits, he has no redeeming characteristics whatsoever.

He hardly qualifies as human.

Guileless? He lies nearly every time he opens his mouth. The truth is not in him. And he accuses others of flip-flopping, when he has contradicted himself more times than the most powerful computers can count.

The fact that he's not only indifferent to what the people he's supposed to represent want is hardly a virtue.

The fact that he's indifferent to truth and to every concept of human decency is hardly a plus either.

Somewhere you say "dignity" -- uh, the man is a complete buffoon.

His ideas and actions are all wrong.

He's doing everything he can to destroy this country, and you admire him for it?

He's completely ignorant, and his stupidity prevents him from ever learning (that and his utter lack of curiosity).

Yet he's arrogant.

He has no heart, no compassion.

He's a mass murdering, torturing, raping, thieving, lying corrupt traitor to his country.

And you find all this admirable.

Edit: about no more attacks. Terrorism has been skyrocketing, due to Bush.

No, there hasn't been another attack HERE, but that's hardly to Bush's credit (he's refused to do anything that would prevent future attacks here). It's not as though there were attacks here every year until Bush.

But if your loved ones had been killed in any of the attacks overseas, would you still love Bush so much?

I find the idea that none of the people murdered because of Bush matter, since they weren't Americans utterly disgusting.

But then, I find the person you admire utterly disgusting, and morally reprehensible.

why do I respond to people who have NO VALUE FOR HUMAN LIFE? There's no point.

Your assessment that no terror attacks have happened since 9/11 is so far true but he was President when that did happen. So the largest attack in American history was on his watch & his first reaction to the attack was to sit in a class room in Florida with a blank look on his face for several minutes. That's leadership? Oh, and the Mission Accomplished thing seems to be going pretty well also. Bush is an Oil man from an Oil family who surronded himself with Oil people (Condi Rice, Dick Cheney, ect) and tried to take by force the oil fields in Iraq. It would have been much more cost effective in human lifes & money to buy it rather than steal it.

A very important point made here that the left will not understand is that each of makes mistakes and the cream rises to the top. GWB has made many mistakes in his life and he has faced them and over come them which is what has keep us safe by saying what he means and believes so whether or not you agree with him you know where you stand and he stands and this is why the Terrorist fear him as Libyan Qaddafi gave up his nuclear program. GWB is hurting the true Conservative values by Amnesty and not facing down Turkey on the Armenian Genocide but in many other areas his is and will go down as one of the best we have had in certain areas.
You show you see the true value of a person Penelope.

I'm a Republican, and I believe he betrayed our core values.

First he centralize power and increase the power of the Presidency. He continued the mistakes of Clinton even after they were proven to be wrong. (NAFTA, deregulating the stock market, and left mortgages and hedge funds unregulated, etc) He is the first Republican to decide to occupy a nation. He kept people in his cabinet long after they were proven incompetent to do their job.

Edit>>>Rationalresponders.com: I am tired of hearing how the Bush cheated his way to the Presidency. I hate the man, but Gore is the one who tried to cheat his way to run our country. He kept asking to change the parameter of how we count until he would win. According to statistic, that is cheating. Playing with the numbers until you get the data you want???? Accounting firms got in trouble for doing that.
If GOre didn't hink the electionwas handle properly, he should of mention it prior to the election. That was what Bob DOrnan did. He complained about election irregularities, prior to the Bush- GOre election and his election against Loretta Sanchez. Democrats didn't complain then, that Loretta got a congressional seat by cheating.

Edit>>> ALso violating the Genevea convention or trying to push the envelope on torture is also something that violate my sense of what is right. It endangers our tropps in future engagements, because our enemies no longer feel obligated to follow the Genevea Convention.

When he leaves office he will have beaten Clinton's record for that accomplishment. When the right starts giving Clinton credit, I'll give Bush credit. In the mean time the best thing to be said about Bush is that he is only a 2 term president.

What you say is true but your conclusion is flawed.

Bush is clearly an intelligent and able man, there is no doubt about that, if he weren't he would not have been able to get to were he is. The trouble is, in-spite of his innate intelligence and natural abilities he managed to make a mess that will haunt not only the US but the world for a long time. It is not his intelligence that is questionable it is his common sense and his ability to execute.

You mention that he deserves credit for there not being any attacks on US soil since 9-11. Al-qaeda didn't attack in the previous 20 years in the US either but it did attack in Africa and the middle east, they choose their targets according to THEIR schedule not ours. If they attack you when you expect it they would only re-enforce support for the United Statesian president, that would be stupid, they are not about to do that.

I had a 1200 SAT score by 9th grade.

Bush got into Yale because of the legacy rule.

Nobody ever saw his grades from high school, which is funny because if they were good, they obviously would have been touted.

Prescott Bush also donated an entire wing to Yale. Right, they were going to turn him away...

1. The man stands pat even when it becomes obvious that his solution is a disaster---- thats called stupidity.

2. He is a lousy public speaker and has zero personal charisma---- couldn't have said it better myself.

3. He is still a dry drunk.

4. He barely made it through any of the schools. The only reason he got into those schools was because of his families money not because of his academic prowess.

5. The man has diginity--- give me a break. He would sell his mother for the right price. Scooter Libby is a classic example.

6. This is the one I find the most hysterical. Our borders are wide open. If they wanted to hit us again they would have no problem whatsoever.

Bush's best trait is his refusal to back down to the liberals, especially when they tried to get him to sign the military budget that included time lines. He promised to veto it and he did and when the Democrats vowed to not back down from this requirement, they backed down.

Like you, I don't agree with everything he does but I fully support him and just wish he could run for a 3rd term. Hmm, maybe we can get Jeb Bush to run.
