Thanks there are some good responses.
To those people who say that 'Violence is not the answer'. I am not a violent person and I support Law and Order, to a point. BUT, look back in history. Sometimes it is the only answer. Only through violence and civil disorder major Social and Political changes were achieved. Are we there yet? I am not sure. But how much further will you be pushed?

Mad Cow - WOW you are so right. I am seriously considering that now, it helps because I speak Spanish. In addition to everything you have already mentioned I think it will be a far better lifestyle for my kids. A lot more relaxed and a much better education system. They focus on the important subjects instead of all the Liberal PC BS. They achieve twice as much in half the time and the kids are far less stressed out (I know because we already have a lot of family there). It’s difficult because I run a small business here so I have commitments. But I am investigating outsourcing the work to India or Poland and just moving my office over to the Costa. See you there.

If you remove the Smoking Ban from your list - because I think it is a great idea - then I'll join your riot on the rest.
I think you have a point even though it may be made tongue in cheek. The French public have a history of civil disturbances whenever there is a new law or tax being introduced with which they disagree. More often than not they get the government to change their mind. It was the fear of this type of unrest which kept them out of Iraq.
Vive la France.....

You ask the question : Why can't we stand up for ourselves anymore?
Remember it was a British colonial government that introduced opium into China in order to create a docile people.
We almost have a parallel situation in the U K with an estimated 44% of people taking drugs of one kind or another and MP's sit back and pretend there is nothing wrong.
All they are interested in is power and wealth (e.g. the Blair and Kinnock families) while the fat cats and property speculators inflate the price of goods and houses assisted by the Bank of England because they know people no longer have the spirit to fight back through being hooked on either alcohol or drugs.
Carry on reading the Sun and the News of the World and watching Coronation Street and East Enders the opium of the masses while they laugh all the way to the bank and you are too blind to see it.

I'll let you into a little secret, it is not compulsory to stay in this country. If you think the grass is greener on the other side [it rarely is] just move instead of moaning.
Are you frightened of taking a stand by yourself, is that why you need others to join you in a riot ?
"Everyone is moaning, but nobody is doing..." That's just not true, many people take a stand and not everybody is moaning, you probably haven't noticed through your self pity.
Compare Britain in the 70's to now, we've never had it so good; a nanny state for a nation of moaners ?!

I feel for you! We moved out of the nanny state that is UK four years ago and are soooooooooo glad we did. We hated what was happening then and we watch from afar as it becomes worse and worse.
We now live in Spain, as do a lot of dissatisfied Brits. Come and join us - it's a fantastic place. Not only is the cost of living about 1/3 what it is in UK, the weather is infinitely better and the people are friendly!

Demonstrations ARE riots, the Media just doesn't spin it that way.
Riots or demonstrations don't work, they just make everyone look stupider, including the entirety of America, or Britain, wherever you're from.
Why don't you get involved with your local government? Protest the taxes, see if you can make a difference?
Believe it or not, even one person can make a difference.
Google this broad 'Annette Hipona'.
She's making a difference, and she's only one person. Granted, she has politcal allies, but she's doing pretty good.

Why riot and loot though. I would have thought direct action would be far better against those concerned. A revolution starts with a wheel turning a small amount.
Tactical direct action not an excuse for mass lawlessness.

Have you ever joined a politically motivated organisation, ever joined a political party, ever petitioned your council, ever actively got involved in an election, ever got involved in a local campaign to prevent a by-law or closure of a hospital etc. If you haven't then I have no sympathy for you. However those of us that have done all of these and are still cursed by this government are the ones that should riot.

Riots are a bit stupid really........they cost you and I more money because insurance will go up because of the damage caused...........you can't possibly think the government would pick up the tab. It also put innocent people at risk and has no effect on the safety of government members as they are all safe in their ivory towers.
