Well sorry to rick p, but the Core 2 Duo is much much better than the Pentium D. Now I suppose if you get the fastest Pentium D available against the slowest Core 2 Duo, maybe on some occasions the Pentium D might win slightly, but not often. Anyway in this case that is the best Core 2 Duo currently available, it will easily crush the Pentium D 3.8Ghz.

The intel Core 2 Duo of any speed will outperform any Pentium D any time.

The Core 2 line of chips is currently the most powerful consumer processor available.

The Pentium D is the worst dual core ever made. It was very hot and its floating point performance was horrible.

This list is of multi-core processors from best to worst:
1 - Intel Core 2
2 - AMD X2
3- Pentium D

The core 2 duo is better. The processor is better, the microarchitecture is better, the energy consumption is lower, etc. Besides, you can always overclock the core 2 to well over 3 Ghz, and the pentium doesn't have much overhead.

It depends on your O/S, system configuration, what apps you're running and what kind of apps they are.

The whole comparison goes a little deeper than, "The intel Core 2 Duo of any speed will outperform any Pentium D any time." to which I would heavily disregard as nonsense.
