I have a 1996 Chrysler Concorde LX. Once the engine is warm, it seems to want to jerk when applying gas to accelerate. If I go into idle, the car dies.

Today, when in idle the car died, and it took me 15 minutes to get it to start. The engine would turn, a/c and radio turned on. But would not actually start. I thought it might of been the air filter or oil filter, so I had both replaced along with the PCL valve (i think that was what it was called) along with oil and coolant fluids yesterday. Still no luck. Any ideas

My guess is you have an issue in the fuel supply system. Have that checked thoroughly, including pressure from the fuel pump, condition of the fuel filter, and fuel injectors at the engine site.

Sad to say, it could also be one of the myriad sensors located on an automobile. If any one of them goes bad and does not feed appropriate information to your ECM, you can have issues.

If your 'check engine' light has come on, you can try to pinpoint the general area of the problem. These cars will feed you a trouble code by turning on the ignition, turning it off, and then turning it back on again. After a few seconds, the engine light will flash the code. As an example, three flashes, a pause, and two more flashes indicates trouble code 32. You should be able to find definitions of these trouble codes either online or in a Haynes manual for that model.

Hmmm. Two symptoms are present.....I suspect two problems. To attack the idling problem (from a new direction) try cleaning the throttle body......make it spotless, too. This is common to ALL fuel injected vehicles.
It also sounds like a fuel supply issue, too. Get a rubber mallet and a friend to help you.......run the car (in the driveway) until it acts up and will not restart. Then locate the gas tank under the car and hit it dead center repeatedly while your friend cranks the engine over. If you hear the magic whine of the fuel pump after hitting it, and the car starts.....the fuel pump is bad. This trick only works once or twice, so be attentive and listen closely for the whine/buzz.
Or, it could be a TPS sensor......still very possible. It would set a code and turn on the "check engine" light. So check for codes, as well.
The last possiblity is a badfuel pump relay heating up over time. you can swap it with the a/c clutch relay so that you can eliminate the possiblity. but I have seen very few fail.

These cars are famous for fuel injection problems.....

Start by replacing the fuel filter, Then have the pump check along with the fuel injectors

See if the egr valve might be stuck partially open. This condition will drastically affect the air to fuel mixture and can prevent the engine from running.

It's a nice car. I had the tranny rebuilt at 95000 kms but at 145000 it's still seems fine. The car is hard on tie-rods (had them done 3 times) but Chrysler was always bad for suspension problems. It depends on the mileage of the car. It will handle hills no problem and for its size the gas mileage is pretty decent. I had no regrets buying it.

When was the last time it was tuned up? These are all good answers by the way. I had a 95 with the same issues.
