No one can change genders. A man will always be a man, a woman will always be a woman.
You can get a doctor to mutilate your body so you look more like a person of the other gender, but that's about it.

A transsexual is someone born male or female, assigned to one gender as society sees fit, but identifies as another gender. Many transsexuals (most I would say) feel the need to change their sex to fit their gender since gender is something that can't be changed.
One of the big issues is the internal conflict felt by these individuals that is caused by the disparity between what feels natural to them and the expectations that society, family, friends and loved ones put on them based on gender they are perceived as. Transsexuals often go through years of self denial trying to be someone they are not to avoid the hardships that changing one's sex involves. Coming out and transitioning, as its commonly is called, involves a huge financial burden and the risk of losing everyone close to you. However, the reward is living a life that feels right and not having to deny who you really are.

In my case I always knew I was wrong gendered from my earliest memories. I always wanted to play with dolls and play house with my sisters and other girls. To change your gender is something that each person comes to on their own time frame. It is not easy to do and has a lot of ramifications..ie family, work , sexual etc. In my case it got to the point where it was change or die no other option was even available. I was absolutely miserable as a male, I felt wrong, knew i was wrong and wanted the change of gender. I realized it when I started living on my own and working and wanted to as a woman. Internally I was totally messed up and knew it and realized that it had to correct for my own benefit....as I said it was change or die. I KNEW I was a woman, being with women held no attraction to me I wanted a boyfriend but only as a woman. I was not homosexual, I was not a lesbian either. I figured outfinally that I was a hetero woman who was wrongly gendered and wanted and needed to correct the situation. Since I have had the surgery and implants and now live as a woman I have never felt happier or more complete as a person. As I said each person comes to his or her own point of revelation and decides which way they desire to go and how far along the path. Some are quite happy to remain pre operative others need to become what they envision themselves to be. The path has many stopping points and you must decide how far you wish to go. You change genders only after much thought, explorations and anguish, it is not something done lightly or easily..NO ONE voluntarily enters this experience without much thought and introspection. After all who wants the discrimination, the hassles in the legal system, with your family and with your friends. You never want to destroy your life lightly and carelessly...and make no mistake you will when you embark on this path unless you are very very lucky. A transsexual is one who has switched gender roles and lives in the new gender and intends to remain so. I hope this helps answers your question.

'Transsexual' is the term used to describe someone born with Benjamin's syndrome (HBS), a congenital neurological intersex condition. There's more information about HBS here;
http://www.harrybenjaminsyndrome-info.org/.
Transsexualism is not related to sexuality; transpeople can be straight, gay, bi or asexual, just like anyone else.
Transpeople don't change genders; we change our bodies to match our gender.
And transsexual is NOT the same as transgender; that's a completely different phenomenon.

The term just means they are in a transittion between sexes. When someone feels they were born with the wrong parts, they feel they would be happier as the other sex. Why does anyone do any type of plastic sugery, because they want to feel better about themselves. They have to go through alot of couseling to get to that stage. It's just not an overnight decision, and they have to live and work as that sex for awhile before they actually get the surgery.

Transsexual is not the same as trans-gender. what you are transsexual, for example, you grew up as a boy, know that you are a boy, but decided to become a woman because you a gay or whatever.
Trans-gender is a disorder that people have since the minute they are born, because they know that they were born with the wrong organs.See the connotation on the words: "sexual" and "gender" two different things.
