I don't mean to offend anyone with this topic but I seriously would like to know. What exactly is it that al Qaeda wants? With the media stretching and confusing everything I want to know what exactly is going on. Is it just the USA that al Qaeda is aiming at or is it everyone? Do they want to take over the world or simply scare everyone? What is going on?!

Their goals have been clearly stated, but rarely reported. Their primary goals are:
1. The removal of foreign troops from what they consider to be "holy land." This refers primarily to Saudi Arabia.
2. An end to western support for "illegitimate, corrupt and oppressive" governments in the Middle East.
3. A minimum price of $100 per barrel for oil, with the increased profits distributed directly to the people of the region.
4. The establishment of an independent Palestinian state and an end to western support for Israel to to the detriment of Palestinians (specifically) and Arab (generally) countries.
While individual spokesmen have made statements about 'destroying us,' 'spreading Islam,' etc., these are statements intended to whip up their base and advance recruitment efforts. They are NOT the core goals of the organization.
To believe that they really care that we eat bacon, watch music videos and allow women to wear pants is simply ridiculous and shows an amazing lack of understanding of the situation. The same is true of the belief (promoted by our government for purely political reasons) that their agenda is to force our conversion to Islam.
Without understanding your enemy, it is virtually impossible to defeat them. Simply accepting and repeating propaganda designed to appeal to the base fears of the general public does far more for our enemies than it does for us.

al Qaeda wants as a first goal to reestablish the original Caliphate, basically akin to Christian peoples wanting to establish a government in their range using "Christian law," and to establish Shar'ia over their dominion.
Since some of the land in the original Caliphate is disputed territory, this is a radical idea. All of the rest is basically fear mongering.

They want to create a caliphate which will rule the whole world under Islamic Sharia Law with the center of operations in Baghdad.

They want the world to pay $200 for a barrel of oil. They also want total control of OPEC, in short, they want to control the worlds fuel supply instead of the sheiks. Pity about the oil peak though.
