At a morning news conference where he released a mixed progress report on his troop buildup, Mr. Bush repeatedly invoked the threat of Al Qaeda as a reason to stick with his strategy, saying the group he referred to as Al Qaeda in Iraq “has sworn allegiance to Osama bin Laden.”

"Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia did not exist before the Sept. 11 attacks. The Sunni group thrived as a magnet for recruiting and a force for violence largely because of the American invasion of Iraq"

So let me get this straight - we know Al Qaeda didn't exist in Iraq before 9/11 (contrary to what Bush has claimed). Now because of the Iraq War, not only are they in Iraq, but have claimed allegiance to bin Laden, who Bush failed to catch because he sent the troops to Iraq? This is the justification for staying in Iraq?

Biggest irony ever?

I think that would be Al Queda's plan now that we are there, since they wouldn't have been if we weren't, which is what liberals have said all along, and which Bush has been denying since the invasion.

Like I said before. Bush wanted Saddam out so they could build a democracy and get them to pass the "Divy up the Oil"law and figred it would be a few month ordeal dealing with Saddma and a few insurgents, and didn't figure on all the foriegn fighters coming to kill our troops, just because they are there. Now that he is seeing the error of his ways, he is looking for a way out that he can blame on democrats, expecting that they would have already pulled the plug by now and made it easy for Bush to claim them weak on security. Nothing is quite working out the way Bush planned, that is obvious.

So our troops left Afghanistan? I thought we had a multi-nation coalition of troops there the whole time.

The justification for staying in Iraq is to ensure that the democratic government has time to build strength to protect itself from groups like Al Qeada that don't want democracy. Al Qeada focuses on any system that inhibits their agenda of converting the world to their warped version of Islam.

"Al Qaeda in Iraq is a good reason to continue the fight against them there, or would you like to have the deaths of about 4 million Kurds on your head?"
IS THIS THE NEW AND OFFICAL REASON FOR GOING TO WAR??? JUST HOW MANY BS STATEMENTS WILL NEOCONS PRODUCE TO DEFLECT CRITICISM OF THE IDIOT BUSH??

Ironic? Don't you mean moronic? Bush is going to say whatever pops into his head if he thinks it will help his cause. We can see where it's gotten him. Even his supporters are deserting him. He's an embarrassment.
