I think the success of Barack's campaign speaks so highly of our growth as Americans. He's black, he was raised by a single mother, he has Muslim lineage, and most people are still focusing on his academic achievements and features as a candidate.

As a part African-American convert to Islam who was raised by a single mother i've often been discriminated against and felt bitter towards America.

However, seeing Barack's success makes me so proud.

Maybe all this time.... it has only been our government that was backwards..... b/ it seems our people are not as racist or closed-minded as we might think

PEOPLE ARE SO DUMB..... BARACK IS NOT MUSLIM..... Barack's father was muslim (muslim lineage) but he was not a large influence on his life. Barack is a very devout Christian that attends a church in chicago..... how could you feel you had enough knowledge to answer this question if you didn't know that...... WATCH THE NEWS!

It is definitely progress if we can get beyond race and stop paying so much attention to whether such and such candidate is a woman or black or Mormon or whatever. We have way more important things to worry about.

And it definitely will reflect our worldliness as a nation that after more than 200 years of an unbroken string of white male presidents, almost all of them Protestant, in the next 100 years we will likely see a much more colorful array of Presidents, from all kinds of ethnic backgrounds, and with all kinds of interesting names. And eventually we will stop talking about the first woman this or the first Hispanic that, or whatever.

Hopefully the American people vote for the candidate that represents what they think America should BECOME rather than what America IS.
I don't think race or sex is the issue. (It IS for a small minority of the dregs of American society, but we can ignore THEM.)
The issue is: does the candidate represent what we WANT.
For me, that is NOT Barack Obama. His book title tells it ALL.
"The AUDACITY of Hope".
If he thinks HOPE is audacious, he is in the wrong place!
Everyone that comes to America comes because of HOPE and OPPORTUNITY. That opportunity is provided by our free enterprise system.
Is he saying he will eliminate opportunity? If he establishes a Marxist/Socialist society like he suggests, THAT is EXACTLY what he will accomplish!

I totally agree. If Barack Obama gets elected I will have restored faith in the people of this country. It is time for a change of pace.

I don't think it's America's success to have a Muslim in the White House, A Black American would be fine with me but not a Muslim of any color!

How can he be a devout Christian and believe in abortion and gay marriage?

I was astonished at his fund raising numbers...more than any of the Dems and almost twice as much as any of the Republicans...he has a lot of support...it will be interesting to see how this plays out as the campaign continues.

Still doesn't negate the fact that he is an attorney. This should have immediately disqualified him for the current position he holds now as well as the one he is currently running for. Unless of course he's willing to also pull out of the BAR as well. Same scenario applies to Hillary Clinton as well.
