Well, you are not fighting in a fare game here, these terrorists are not your average solders, you are tackling highly educated, ideologically brainwashed selfless individuals and groups who cares so little of this life because they believe in the rewards of the one after!
These people are cunning, they –unlike traditional enemies- manipulates the media, showing that they are superhuman specie, that they have a just cause in their “struggle”, they brainwash gullible minds and transfer them into potential mortars who have NO value for life, and all value to the belief! Some of these minds live in your neighborhood near you! That is a fact; remember what happened in London with the underground transportation system? In Spain?
They will not stop, even IF the troops where sent home, remember the world trade center towers in New York? They need to be stopped, and the only way is by brutal force, I am so sorry but diplomacy is dead long gone and it is time for the people of this planet to unite and end this monstrosity once and for all… Good Luck

Terrorism will always exist to some extent as long as two people cannot peaceably disagree with one another. As far as completely defeating terrorism, it will not likely happen even in our distant future. However, you could consider it a Win if the amount of terrorism done has been reduced from the time it was started. How you measure the levels are different formulas depending on your viewpoint.
As far as bringing the troops home, you are correct in saying that it won't make terrorism go away. Anyone saying differently is foolish. The main concern with bringing them back now, is that what will the reaction of the terrorists be? Will this particular group just be content and discontinue? Or will it be the "if you give a mouse a cookie effect" and just make them more aggressive?

I do not believe that you are going to defeat terrorists on the battlefield. I would like to believe otherwise, but I just cannot see this as being a reality. The United States is a relative new comer in relation to Islamic terrorism. These religious wars have been raging largely undeterred since the dawn of time and yet western people constantly keep adopting the Utopian idea that we are going to find a way to end it. We are not going to end it. There were terrorists before we were born and there will still be terrorists after we die. The reality is that the only way to truly stop Islamic terrorism would be to eradicate Muslims entirely. To people of the Muslim faith please do not view this as an insult. I know that most Muslims are not terrorists and I choose to believe that the majority do not support those who are. The point of the statement is that the terrorists are well hidden among the faithful and there is just no possible way to distinguish them from otherwise honest, moral and peace loving people until they commit a terrorist act. The fact is that in general the best we can do against terrorism is respond and often times this response is going to be after the fact.

Because terrorism isn't an enemy, it's a tactic, a weapon in the hands of the enemy. Fighting terrorism is like fighting guns or bombs or drugs. You can't defeat an army by knocking the guns out of thier hands, they'll just pick them back up and shoot you.
That's what the War on Terror is like. No matter how hard you try to stop terrorists, more can always be recruited.

Terrorism is not a person, place or thing. It is a tactic, one that has been used throughout the course of history. For example when the Romans sacked Carthage in the 2nd Century BC, they slaughtered everyone and then salted the earth so nothing would ever grow there again. (Sounds like a terrorist act to me).
You cannot defeat a tactic, you can do your best to reduce that method from being used, but there is now way to eliminate terrorism from the planet.

Because terroism is a tactic (however dispicable and dishonorable) of war.
It's like fighting a war on carpet bombing, or marine beach landing. How are you ever going to win that?
The troops in Iraq are policing a civil war and fighting a target that will never go away. It's totally unsustanable. If you think the war in Iraq is preventing terrorism, then I'd like to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge.

Terrorism cannot be defeated through offensive attack. The greatest strength and power of the terrorist is public oppinion. Because of that, they always portray themselves as defenders of some sort. For example, Al- Qaida portrays itself as the defender of Islam against the western powers that wish to destroy it. Whenever you attack such an organization head on, you prove them to be right. We have invaded 2 sovreign Muslim nations and are propping up unpopular governments in a dozen others.
Offensive actions such as this justify to the people that there is a need for defence against the west, which justifys the existence of Al-Qaida in their eyes. It also justifies terrorist tactics because these are the only tactics that weak nations can use to defend themselves against strong nations, and when we attack Muslim nations, we cause people to feel that they need defence against us, therefore they turn to terrorism.
Have you ever watched the movie Red Dawn? Its a movie about American terrorists who fight against a Russian invasion. The fact that so many people identify with these protagonists proves that Americans too would take up terrorism (and did so during the revolution) in order to defend themselves against a more powerful nation.
Because of all this, attacking the terrorists militarily only causes their organization to gain more support and more people. If you want evidence, read the recent report on Al-Qaida activities. They have completley rebuilt their organization and will soon be more powerful than they were before we attacked them. Proof that our war in Iraq (where Al-Qaida did not operate untill we arrived) is only making the problem worse.
Sorry, but giving me the thumbs down doesn't keep it from being true.
I was in favor of the war at one time, and then I went to the Middle East to study and discovered the truth of the matter. If you can't do the same, I suggest that you find someone who has and have a nice long chat with them about the public oppinon effect that our actions are having in the Middle East before you dissagree.

Terrorism is basically an extreme form of protesting. They use violence until they get what they want. The difference between two standing armies fighting a war and one army fighting terrorists is that when you have two armies, they have a specific force and organization. You fight and whoever surrenders loses.
In terrorism, you have a rather small group of people willing to fight and die for what they want. They don't wear uniforms, they were regular attire and they have the resources they need to kill. The biggest problem is that as we are finding, capturing, and killing terrorist, more people are joining their ranks. By pulling out we can't defeat terrorism, but we can't by staying there either.
When you have large terrorist organizations so bent on a goal, it is damn near impossible to kill them. Examples provided can be the Viet Kong, the Chechnyians, and the colonial Americans.

Bringing troops home from Iraq won't make terrorism go away, but it will free up the resources necessary to fight terrorism worldwide, as well as protect our borders. Not to mention taking away one of the terrorist recruiters biggest sources of anti-american sentiment.
'Terrorism' can't be permanently defeated because there will always be people willing to use terrorist tactics like blowing up civilians in order to advance their radical agendas, both political and religious. You can keep killing from now until the earth crashes into the sun, and there will always be more of them.
All it takes is a gas can, a match, and someone who is willing to do the unthinkable.
The fact is, the situation in Iraq is unwinnable, and continues to get worse every day. As do the delusions of this administration and their followers.

I don't necessarily agree with it can or cannot be defeated. One thing I do know is, that you will never elimanate hate breeding. Terrorists and the other extremists are taught to hate the west or "the infidels" right from the womb, and will never be stopped. Just like the "War on Drugs", pointless war as well. Some people for some reason will always want an "escape" or "crutch" to get through life, and they will find any way or means to get it. Where there is a will, there is a way.
