Too much $$$ and not enough computer!!!

For $900 you should be getting a faster CPU, 2G RAM, an audio system other than MS; XP instead of Vista.

The tech spec's take up all it's space talking about the CD/DVD "speeds" and the various connectors every laptop has. They don't very well define the Audio and Video capabilites, etc.

I agree that Sony makes a good laptop, but I think for $900 you can get a lot more computer is you take a look at the other manufacturers.

In fact, I'd recommend you look at the Dell's and see what $900 will buy comparitively. We have 6 Dell laptops in the family and have never had one issue with them and the oldest one is 7 years old and is still being used every day.

I think for $900 you should be getting at least a 2.1GHz Core2Duo and not the 1.6GHz this sony has. You should also be getting 2G RAM. The 15.4" monitor is very common on Laptops for less money.

Shop - shop - shop!!!

Don't get hung up on the Vaio's just because they have the Sony logo on them. There are lots of other really good laptops out there for less money than what Sony asks!!!

Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

If you'd like to have an eye-candy look and willing to spend $200 more for the configuration you can easily buy from another company for much less (HP comes to mind as a quality product), Sony is the right choice.

By the way, Dell has a new series of laptops called Vostro which are, if you judge by configuration, can easily beat more expensive competitors and these laptops do not look as ugly as most of Dell computers.

But Sony looks very cool from design standpoint, I must admit.

Decent laptop for the money, I would recommend spending the extra money and getting more RAM, the Operating system itself requires a minimum of 512 MB at all time to run, and 1 GB to run smooth so try getting at least 2 GB of Ram. if your are going to be spending this much money on a laptop, look at this dell, it has everything i recommend including all of the same features as your preferred laptop the only difference is a built in webcam, more memory and a better hard drive. not to mention that the graphics card is top notch for a laptop.

It's fine for a basic user. If you just email, browse the web, maybe download music for your ipod....

However it is WAY overpriced but all of Sonys laptops are, because of how the body of the machine looks...

You can get an hp, dell, or gateway for about 300 dollars less and get the same exact internal equipment same speed and all...

That's a great Sony laptop! It seems powerful enough for your every day tasks. If you're looking into buying a laptop, Sony would be a good choice!
