OK before you start laughing to wake the dead, know im serious. No im not saying " hey lets play super smash bros melee instead of doing our work!" Im saying i learn alot more from video games then i do from school books. I think there should be a company that makes video games that help kids learn, but in a fun way. Such as the fact that i didnt really understand turbulence until i played sonic riders. That game played just like a game would, but it sort of mixed turbulence in there. No i dont think the game should be like " Answer this question to take a step! " it should be like, if they were studying some people discovering a new country, you control they're time in the boat. Like avoiding rocks and stuff. Im just saying kids learn alot more when 1. Its exciting and 2. your sort of inside the lesson which os the two things video games can do. What do you think?

First of all, thank you chri$ and souleater. Second of all, i noticed everyone of you people who didnt agree with me either just said no or said that there were already learning games. I realise that! but as i mensioned, THEY ARE NOT EXCITING! Heres what you do! Answer a question. Thing cheers. answer another question. Thing cheers. Seriously if you were in the middle of a test and needed to answer a question about world war II I would be able to remember it better if i expirienced it with a video game then i would if i just read about it. Also those learning games on the internet stop being useful in 2nd grade!

It is a good idea, and they've attempted it before but with much younger children...it didn't do so well, you might remember on the original PlayStation , Nintendo 64, and dreamcast! but i agree with you, video games do help your motor and mental skills! you have to think fast and strategise at the same time. It's a little hard to make a video game really awsome and educational at the same time...today most of us just want more blood and more excitement! Maybe you should get into game design...you never know an odd idea can go a long long way!

Actually, as a teacher I used the Oregon Trail game in class as a learning center and the Civilization 4 game is also cool for teaching about ancient civilizations. Also, there are math and language games regularly used in classrooms around the country. You can put the math problems on a sheet for the children to practice and they act like it's torture, but put the same problems on a computer screen in game format and they'll play for as long as you let them. Millie's Math House is one, Bailey's Book House is another - for the younger set. So your idea not only has merit, it's already being used.

There already are games like that and websites for them too.
I know it seems a really cool idea but really you don't learn that much.
I tried playing learning games ad everything as revision for exams a while a go but it didn't help me at all. I got distracted and was really disappointed cus after however many hours I hadn't learnt a thing.
They're ok for little bits of info but at the end of the day books- no matter how boring and plain they can be, get the job done.

OK one the already make some games for younger kids to play and learn. Second replacing books and teachers with video games not a good idea but using them as a tool helpful.

I'd say to a limited extent there is nothing wrong with using a video game as a teaching tool at any age. My 5-year-old nephew plays his leap-frog and learns a lot and it's great.
However, your suggestion takes that good idea to an ulta-lazy extreme for no good reason.

The video games are extremely addictive. i admire um myself. turn off the video games and go outdoors and get some sunlight as quickly as in awhile. Its not wholesome to be in front of that television plenty.

This is the first intelligent question I've seen on here all day. Congratulations.
Yeah, it's an alright idea. Of course, you also have to have more standard instruction too, but that would be a good supplement for a class.
