Intel Core 2 Duo processors are the top processors right now, regardless of MHz.

Currently, the Intel Core 2 Duo family of processors have edge in terms of performance over AMD. Check out www.anandtech.com or www.tomshardware.com to read reviews of different chips.

Processors stopped being compared by their clock speed (the gigahertz number) a few years back- the big thing is now is multi-core chips. If you want a future-proof processor, definitely go for a dual core chip. Good luck!

The difference between 3700 and 3800 MHZ wont be enough to notice. More performance can be attained by adding a video card and more ram. Which type just depends on how much you want to spend.

If those are all the options you have, go with the 3.8 Ghz. I'd rather go with a Core 2, and as others have said, the gigahertz race ended a while ago. If you can't get a Core 2 duo, just get a new computer. It's guaranteed to outperform your pentium or Athlon.
