Hey everyone, I just bought a new HP Pavilion notebook with 1.6 ghz duo Turion 64 Processor with Windows Vista pre-installed a few weeks ago and I've noticed (using the CPU meter sidebar tool) that my RAM usage is always 60-80%. I've compared it to my PC which usually only has about 20% of its RAM used. I have nothing running that my PC isnt running (using task manager) and it's always very high even on a fresh boot. Is this normal or should I get it checked?

Thanks everyone

Well, it all depends on how much RAM you have. When running Windows Vista, you really should have at least 2 GB of RAM installed....sadly, this is the maximum that most inexpensive laptops can accept today. You can check how much you have by right clicking on "My Computer" and reading what it says under "System Information."

Vista seems to run 600-800mb or so on a clean system. That's why most people recommend 2gb ram.

You could go through and remove many programs from startings automatically when Windows starts. You could also use a tool like IOBITS free program to optimize your pc.
