What should I do. I don't want to work with a crazy drug addict but she works hard. Should I call the cops? Tell my boss? Talk to her family?

Were you aware that Marijuana is not addictive and has no longterm side effects? Not sure how smoking pot would make this woman a "Crazy Drug Addict".

The fact that you admit she works hard should clue you in that Marijuana isn't nearly as bad as you were lead to believe by DARE and other propaganda that the medical and scientific community has refuted.

What you don't realize is that behind the stereotype of the "lazy stoner" sub-culture there is actually a larger quiet majority of successful, hard working people that happen to enjoy smoking a joint intead now and then. I know dozens of colleagues and friends that enjoy Marijuana and are also fully functioning members of society. Managers, Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers... they are everywhere you just don't realize it.

Not trying to argue you should smoke pot, certainly there is little beneficial that comes from it, but you should at least realize that it is about as harmful as watching TV.

My question would be how do you know it's Marijuana? I have a friend who sells white sage, that burns it to clean the house, and I can't not believe how many people would say that it smells like Marijuana. When to me it smells nothing like it.

If she is a hard worker and does her job, How is she a crazy drug addict? but from your definition of how she works does not sound like a crazy drug addict to me.

More over someone who is under the influence doesn't even fit your description.

She could be just in an environment that she is around it.That is not saying she is. But before you start pointing fingers of what her home life is like you should get the facts straight.

Don't be so bloody ignorant. If she does her work well then why do you wanna cause problems? and saying you don't wanna work with a drug addict it's only a plant that grows from the ground. Coffee and Alcohol are drugs do you do them? are you a drug addict then? So you never broke the law? and if you did and they called the cops on you would you be happy? There is no room for big criminals in this world but something like this is pathetic you really need to be a bit more open minded on things.

Obviously Andrew is a pothead. Anyway I guess it depends on where you work. If its McDonald's then I wouldn't worry about it. If its an office then file a complaint. If she's hot then you should bang her. That way she'll get fired.

Edit: Don't listen to all these pot heads man, you have a right in the work place to not have to come in contact with drugs in any form (unless you are somewhere else besides the US). They are just defending her because they come to work stoned all the time. Really though if shes a hard worker, shes probably not stoned. She might get rides with someone that smokes while driving or her roommate or something. I'd get some more info before I blow my whistle. Anyway don't take advice from potheads about what to do about a pothead.

Also, kudos to the guy at the bottom with the Indian/curry comment.

I say its better than smelling like booze, better than taking pain pills... Dont be a corporate rat. youre boss may already know or will soon find out if its that obvious. If you want to help, say out loud "what smells like pot?"

maybe shell get the hint and brush her teeth or get a change of clothes before coming into work.

People self medicate for a variety of reasons..

If she works hard, does her share of the work, and is a nice person... and the only problem you have noticed is the smell of marijuana... why do you have to do anything? It's not hurting you in any way and she's obviously not "crazy". I think you are over reacting.

Here's what I would do. I do not believe in the "cops" theory as I don't believe in hurting anyone and wouldn't do that just for the sake of it.

If she is a good hard worker and does what she needs to, I would not want to get her in trouble. Therefore I would not tell her manager since it is a manager's responsibility may be to take action on her even if he does not want to since there are complex legalities around that.

So, I would simply pull her to the side and sit down with her to express your concern (especially if it bothers you). If it bothers you, express your sincere concern for the both of you (bothering you, her getting in trouble), and if it does NOT really bother you but you are concerned for her....simply communicate that as well.

I strongly believe in communication. I have 3 managers working for me and I preach to them to simply use common sense and good judgement in situations and not to always just do something because the books say to.

Once you communicate this to her and she understands, it is up to her to adjust to it or "walk on thin ice" until someone else who may not feel the concern that you do but would rather just watch her get in trouble.

I do NOT do drugs nor do I confide in them but I would not want to see someone get in trouble, and possibly lose their job when they are technically not harming others. Alot of people in very professional jobs have many skeleton's in their closets and i'm sure some are "illegal" but I would rather just speak my concern to them and put it into their hands.

I would not want to touch that one with a ten foot pole. If she is a good worker and causes you no harm then I say leave her alone.

The problem is that you do not actually know it is pot you are smelling or not. Who knows maybe her roommate cooks with a lot of exotic spices or something. You do not want to accuse anyone of something you are not sure of.

Although I think drug use is a lame excuse to be lazy in most cases (it opens my mind man, no it makes you an idiot and helps you sit for 8 hours watching cartoon network and eating m&ms), just leave her alone.

Anyway it smells nice, like an art studio.
