The hospital just has to take the baby and you can go? I know its to prevent babies from getting thrown into trash bins, but what would stop someone from taking someone else's baby? You could just take a baby you find on the street, drop if off at the hospital, and the parents might never see it again. You could make it a weekly hobby and no one could ever ask questions. How is that prevented?

Wait - if someone was just kidnapping babies, those parents would call the police. When a baby is dropped off at a hospital, they call the police too. This way if a baby that had been kidnapped was dropped off at a hospital, the police would find out and reunite it with its parents.

I guess if someone was missing a baby, the police would ask the hospitals if any babies turned up.

There doesn't seem to be much reason for anyone to do what you suggested - risk kidnapping charges just to drop the kid right back off.

If a baby is dropped off it is reported to the police. The person dropping it off isnt required to give any information. Common sense would say that if the ploice have a report of stolen baby, and the hospital has one dropped off it will investigated.
P.S. in Ohio they can also drop them off at a firehouse.
