Hasn't the 'natives think the white or new guy is a god' bit been done to death in cartoons, especially where it turns out the 'god' is supposed to be sacraficed??? If this angle was in the tintin storyline would it have been charged with racism??? and what about the south american and hawaii tribes who killed cook and Cortez because they thought they were gods??? isn't this probably what the writer was really drawing on???

hard saying, but the book was written in the 30's, and things have come a long way since then. i personally think people are over reacting, just looking for a reason to stir up a racial hornets nest

The real issue was not that Tintin was seen as a god by the "natives," as you seem to assert, but that these people were depicted as subhuman savages, as idiot children who need to be looked after by the Great White Father. If that's not typical of the inherent racism that justified Colonialism, then I don't know what racism is. Remember, this book first came out in 1931, a time when the Congo was still a Belgian colony.

And by the way, neither Cook nor Cortez were killed because they were thought to be gods. Cook was killed by Hawaiians in a dispute over some stolen goods, and Cortez, who was indeed at first thought to be a god by the Aztecs (who did not live in South America, as you assert, but in what is now Mexico ), was not killed at all. He died an old man in Spain. It was Cortez who did the killing, in particular the Aztec king, Montezuma.

Those that have a problem or don't understand why it should be removed or the ones that have never nor ever will be subjected to always having to walk around seeing images and depictions of their own race being made fun of, humiliated, thought less of, false prejudices formed and etc..( not to mention having to prove to the idiots of the races that you are able to form a complete thought contrary to what their preconcieved notions of you are). For those of you who can't understand something as simple as that should have a book as well as a movie written and told about how narrow minded and ignorant you all are.
