I'd try to find out who lost it. They probably need it.

Found $300 in an envelope at the top of the escalator in a shopping mall once. It had the bank's name on the outside, and it was a bank with a branch in the mall. Took it to the bank thinking that they might have a record of a recent withdrawal and let them deal with it.

If it was found with some form of ID for whoever lost it then I'd try to return it - but if we're talking just money in an envelope then I'd spend it!

I'd watch in the area of where you found it for help, wanting to find lost money. I would certainly return it , maybe tell the police about it incase somebody came to them to find it. Just what I'd do:)

Take it to the police leave my name and address and hope no-one claimed it.

(Someone pinched 400€ from my purse at the beginning of the year and I know what it's like to lose an amount like that - it was gift from my father to pay my car insurance!)
