Around 850 Sudanese refugees have fled to Israel via Egypt and the Israeli foreign Ministry states: 'We are committed to helping these people.'

Many of the refugees are being given housing by the Jewish Agency and other organisations in Israel. They are being provided with new homes in the village of Ibim.

So why do people on this site keep claiming that the opposite is happening? And why has Sudanese Interior Minister Zubair Bashir Taha publicly condemned Israel for helping? He says that the refugees who have fled will be prosecuted!

Israel is doing her best to help and just gets condemned for it - it's absurd.

You are essentially asking why by and large the world judges Israel according to higher criteria than it judges any other country.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. addressed this question. He stated:

". . . You declare, my friend, that you do not hate the Jews, you are merely 'anti-Zionist.' And I say, let the truth ring forth from the high mountain tops, let it echo through the valleys of God's green earth: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews--this is God's own truth.

"Antisemitism, the hatred of the Jewish people, has been and remains a blot on the soul of mankind. In this we are in full agreement. So know also this: anti-Zionist is inherently anti-Semitism, and ever will be so.

"Why is this? You know that Zionism is nothing less than the dream and ideal of the Jewish people returning to live in their own land. The Jewish people, the Scriptures tell us, once enjoyed a flourishing Commonwealth in the Holy Land. From this they were expelled by the Roman tyrant, the same Romans who cruelly murdered Our Lord. Driven from their homeland, their nation in ashes, forced to wander the globe, the Jewish people time and again suffered the lash of whichever tyrant happened to rule over them.

"The ***** people, my friend, know what it is to suffer the torment of tyranny under rulers not of our choosing. Our brothers in Africa have begged, pleaded, requested--DEMANDED the recognition and realization of our inborn right to live in peace under our own sovereignty in our own country.

"How easy it should be, for anyone who holds dear this inalienable right of all mankind, to understand and support the right of the Jewish People to live in their ancient Land of Israel. All men of good will exult in the fulfillment of God's promise, that his People should return in joy to rebuild their plundered land.

"This is Zionism, nothing more, nothing less.

"And what is anti-Zionist? It is the denial to the Jewish people of a fundamental right that we justly claim for the people of Africa and freely accord all other nations of the Globe. It is discrimination against Jews, my friend, because they are Jews. In short, it is antisemitism."

Just one more thing. An answer here referred to a place called Palestine. The only place in today's world called Palestine is in the American state of Texas.

Israel isn't the "Jewish State" many exterior the rustic think of it is or ought to be...that united states of america exceeded out of existence with the decline of Socialism and the upward push of Capitalism -- that's why this is the popular holiday spot of refugees in the area, whether or no longer they're fleeing persecution or no longer! in actuality, Israel does not have as lots administration over its very own destiny as a sovereign state as many think of and since the final conflict examined, and my own view is that Israel itself if it does not connect the E.U. will exchange into part of the Arab international. in short, ISRAEL IS A SMALL united states of america WHICH ITSELF would be ABSORBED with the aid of a larger ENTITY. no person disputes that the refugees ought to be ALLOWED to proceed to be, the situation is they gained't bypass away EVEN AFTER the possibility IN DARFUR HAS exceeded, and merely as they are going to be ABSORBED into Israel, Israel even with BEING what's meant to BE A place of foundation FOR JEWS, will (on the possibility of repeating myself) be a BI-national STATE which will ought to be SHARED WITH THE VERY ARABS WHO evaluate ITS existence A disaster! this is the JEWS WHO sooner or later often is the REFUGEES because of the fact THEY have been stupid sufficient TO LOSE THEIR STATE! Who will provide them sanctuary--Europe which EXPELLED THEM, THE U.S. WHICH REFUSED THEM get admission to, or the Arabs who will takeover the State of Israel?

Hi, Allergic to Morning - yes, it is absurd and I'm so glad there's a couple of other people noticing this and paying attention because for awhile there I was getting pretty scared by the skewed leftist (facsism disguised as leftism - wonderful!) views in Europe and even here evinced by some of the Eastern newscasters in my own country of Canada! I have noticed while trying to engage in intelligent arguments with young Muslims (are they brainwashed? are they reading anything or watching anything or just being fed a load of propaganda? the rigidity and hysteria of their collective thoughts processes give me quite a chill and should give everyone pause as this kind on 'non-thinking' seems to be gained momentum like some juggernaut from Germany in the late 40's...) this "opposite and completely unrelated to fact and history" kind of thinking.
But you are not wrong, and Israel is the only democratic society in the Middle East, and we should be on their side and showing our colours before it is much too late.
I am getting on every related blog I can and quoting dates and events and rebuttals - if enough of us do it, our voices can't be drowned out. This is so crucial right now - it is our collective responsibility as human beings and inhibitants of free Western democratic nations - or the price may well be the loss of same!

Well done Israel for taking on its share of the Dafuri refugee problem. However there are hundreds and hundreds of thousands of refugees, most of them in camps in Chad or scattered across the wider region. Most live in the most abject poverty under constant threat of murder or rape from Sudanese Government militia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darfur_conflict

Why would Black African muslims take refuge in a non-Muslim country like Israel? Simply, a sense of security. The Dafuri's are Muslims like most Sudanese, yet for a number of years they have been under attack from government backed militia, the Janjaweed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janjaweed who are "Arabised" tribesmen from the north. They are under attack for preserving their own African culture and languages which are dispised by the Arab elite.

This has its roots in the Arab slave trade, when this region was exploited for its "resources" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_Sudan. British attempts to suppress the trade resulted in the Mahdist revolt 1883-98 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Sudan_%281884-1898%29

I recently attended the showing of a film at the Front Line press club in Paddington London http://www.frontlineclub.com/. The film was originally made by the Al-Arabiya telivision station in 2004 and presented by the International Crisis Group http://www.crisisgroup.org/home/index.cfm?id=3060&l=1 who now own the rights. The film was never shown on Al-Arabiya as pressure on its Saudi owners was brought from official sources to supress it.

The film clearly shows that the Sudanese central Government was deeply involved in the reppression of the Dafuris through Arabised tribal leaders. This information plus the fact the film was effectively censored suggests that Darfur is the Arab worlds "dirty little secret" which they do not mention in public. Hence Interior Minister Taha's reaction to the Israeli initiative and the deafening silence about the ongoing Darfur Crisis across the Muslim world.

Well you certainly can't expect a Sudanese official to be objective, so his condemantion shouldn't upset you- he's right in the middle of the mess. He likely would have criticized any country that helped the refugees.

The majority of the world and especially Middle East and African nations want to condemn Israel for all the evils of the world that this just fits into that mentality. Sounds like another era in world history but we want to deny that for now just as we denied Hitler was an issue till it was too late. Again we will do this with the Anti-Semites of today and the catering to terrorists by many especially in Europe and in the far left of the US.

I'll tell you whats absurd, just over a week ago there was a question about Bedouin having their homes demolished and they had to sleep outside with their children and some of the people in this very thread supported Israels actions, now you are supporting their lies and praising them for giving refugees a home, why didn't you criticise Israels actions in making the Bedouin sleep outside, the stench of Ignorant commenters and the racism that goes with it is absolutely astonishing, you people are a hindrance to truth and peace, you people have set up camp in a racist warmongering camp site called Israel.

Absolutely sickening, you should be ashamed, but you cant ,because of your ignorance.

Everyone hates Israel, and frankly, I'm God damn sick and tired of it.
Our nation has always helped those in need, and what do we get back from it?
Lies and controversy, pain and suffering.
