Anyone know who this guy is on the Colonial Penn commercials? He's a football player& he said he broke?

his leg in front of millions of people at some game...back in the 70's I believe. Have any of you seen the commercial and know the name of the guy? I think his first name is Joe...but not sure, it flashed too fast before I could catch it.
