Depending on the forecaster and their office, it's generally the same thing.

They mean that only 1 or 2 areas could see a hit or miss thunderstorm.

A stray thunderstorm is generally one storm that isn't very big that affects a a few small areas. Scattered thunderstorms are generally a patch of a few small storms that affect a few areas, sometimes affecting one area but maybe not affecting one a mile or so away.

Isolated ones want to remain stationary and not associate with the light showers.

Strays rain all over the place...searching for a flood plain that they can call home.
