This is a false juxtaposition. We all sacrifice some personal freedoms to buy some security every day. We pay taxes, lessening our financial freedom, to pay for police protection. I keep my pit-bull on a leash so my neighbor will be secure from being bitten.

Trade-offs are a part of life. The question is, when a terrorist enemy is coming to kill you and destroy your society, what are you willing to do to protect yourself?

Yes, but the KEY word here is "temporary".
What we are facing, in US today, is long term security for our future generations.
Terrorists are not thinking in temporary terms. Their plans are long term. Children are being taught to be martyrs.
Terrorism has already been going on for more than 30 years.

No I would say those who sacrifice their rights for security deserve neither. We do not have a constitutional right to private phone calls or even private mail. The government can listen to every phone call I make if they want, as long as they do not take away my right to say whatever I want during those phone calls.

Sure, I just don't think not being able to call an imam in Iran without being wiretapped to be sacrificing freedom.

absolutely....I can't believe people actually live in fear of terrorism when the cahnces of being in an attack are the same as winning the lottery...I'll take my chances and keep my freedom.
