According to my lease I can only have one AC. But I have more than one bedroom. So I installed another one. It's summer, it's hot and my loved one who lives in another room has to stay cool too. Yesterday we received a letter from Landlord, saying that we have to pay $5 per month all year if we want to continue using our second Air Conditioner. Is there anything legal we can do if the person in that room is over 60? Or maybe there is some legal loophole. Please help.

Also, I pay for electricity, so I don't understand what is the problem here. Also, the landlord constantly raising rent. Is this greed or something else?

If this is stated in your lease that you can only have one and you have put in a 2nd without prior authorization from the landlord, then you are in breach of your lease. For an extra $5/month to break the terms of your lease is really not much at all. Your only real option is to try calling your landlord and seeing if you can work something out with him/her or take out the 2nd air conditioner and switch rooms. Sorry that I do not have a better answer for you. Best of luck and keep cool.

If the lease is clear, then I'm afraid you're stuck. It's probably because the rent includes utilities, so the more a/c units you have the more electricity the landlord must pay for. An extra $60 per year is a real bargain for airconditioning and so I wouldn't argue the point.

If your lease says you can have only one, then you are in violation of your lease if you install a second one. You have 2 choices: Remove the 2nd one or pay the landlord's fee. If you decide to pay the fee, get the approval in writing from the landlord.

You can pay the VERY reasonable fee of $5 per month for the additional air conditioning unit. This is dirt cheap for the privilege of having the extra unit.

Consider yourself fortunate that your landlord is making an exception to his rule for such a reasonable charge.

if your lease clearly states the use of only 1 a/c then you are in violation of your lease. if it does not specify the number than you should not worry. but if it is clearly stated then you signed it so you shoudl uphold th terms of the lease. its only 5 dollars extra. if you care that much about keeping them cool than just pay the extra money and be done with it.

It's in your lease that you signed. Five extra dollars is nothing to cry about. Pay up.

If you don't want to pay, remove your a/c so you only have one in the room with your loved one.
