Burning the American flag has been in front of the Supreme Court more than once.
I think the last decision was that you cannot burn the flag to incite a riot.
It is his right to make a statement by burning the flag but I don't think he will accomplish more than spending money to replace the flags he burned!

Although I find the burning of the flag to be in very poor taste (um hum hippies) I also have to swallow the fact that the day we save NO you can't do that is the day we lose all meaning of the flag. That would be free speech, like Tintin, Talk Radio, burning the flag, violent video games, and guns.

Questions of right and wrong are incompatible with the law. The law does not tell us what is right and wrong, but it gives us a standard to live by. There is nothing a priori wrong with burning a flag. Burn as many as you like, but know that there will be legal consequences.
