To be a Mason it is very simple.

1. You must be a Man (it is a Fraternity)

2. You must be your own Master (This comes from the days of Slavery, and not Cicil War slavery, much further back)

3. Of proper age, which is usually 21, but some states in the U.S. have started accepting men at 18.

4. Be Properly Vouched for....this is how the process begins.

5. Have a Belief in Deity (no Atheist can become a Mason)

What one must do is ASK a Mason to Become a Mason. You would have to ask a Mason for a Petition for Initiation. After filling this out you will return it to the Mason and he will usually sign it and get another Master Mason to sign it as well, since it requires two Master Masons signatures. It will then be read in Lodge during their next Stated Communication (monthly meeting) and will lay over for 4 weeks. This allows them time to check you out, usually by coming to visit with you to get to know you. Some Lodges even check to see if you have any kind of Criminal History, and if so your petition may be denied. After laying over the Brothers are given one last opportunity to say anything either for or against you, then it is voted on. All it takes is one NO vote to keep you from joining. If you are accepted then you will be contacted and asked to come for Initiation usually on a Special Meeting Night. This is when the fun begins.

But as I have seen many answers pertaining to this I must say, you will never be Asked to join. It is forbidden for a Mason to ask anyone to join, you must ask by your own free will. Also you do not have to be related to anyone in the Lodge in order to get in, that is the Easter Star and only pertains to Women, which is an Appendant Body of Freemasonry designed for Women.

I hope this helps, and I recommend that if you have any further questions regarding Freemasonry to check out the book "Freemasons for Dummies, by Christopher Hodapp". I'm not saying you are a Dummy, just that it is a very informative book, and easy to understand.

In order to become a Free Mason you need only ask a Mason. He will give you all of the details and if deemed worthy, you may just be invited to a lodge. It really is as simple as that.

What great about being a Mason is being in a fraternal brotherhood whose mission is to make good men better.

Imagine if our government had that doctrine.

Quite simply ASK.

Freemasonry isn't an invitational order, those who wish to join need simply ask for a petition.

There is minimal criteria to meet in the first instance, mainly

1) Have a belief in a supreme being
2) Be male
3) Of mature age, 21 and over (some areas it is only 18)
4) Be of good character

Once you ask you will meet some of the brethren who will discuss the process, what happens etc and ensure it is what you want and you understand everything.

You do not need to know a Freemason, I didnt, although you will need to be first and seconded before you can be balloted for initiation. Basically if you dont know any, two of those you meet will be your sponsors.

One must be recommended by another Mason.
It's a Christian based fraternity, having it's beginning with King Solomon when he built his temple.
He did this to insure that his workers, masons, were trustworthy and loyal to him.
As in any fraternity, Brethren feel some loyalty to each other.

Surely this tells you something about me.

Hello,

I have friends in the Masons. You initially have to be recommended and sponsered by a member than go through an application process that is voted on as to whether you get in or not.

They have done a good job in being secretive, Be that as it may, all I see is that they are friendly, cordial and help a great deal with charities and community work; all in all very generous in their aid.

well you have to be male, and you have to have a male relative that is in the free masons. then you go through a very tedious application process.
