I hurt my back on Tuesday this week during some exercise. It hurts where my back usually hurts if I fall on my butt, like the tailbone area. Advil/Tylenol don't help, and so far no stretches have either. It's improving, but very slowly, and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to speed up the recovery. It tends to hurt more when I get up if I've been sitting and working for a while. When I get up to walk, it's quite sore and I take small steps for a second while I wait for it to ease off. So! What did I do to my back, and how do I fix it?

get some of those heating pads and put them on. You should go to the doctor and get some perscription anti-inflammatories. try taking aspirin and drinking plenty of water.

You slipped a disc,if you have a decent massage therapist near you go,but only if they're really decent. If not try cats,Go on all fours on the floor, keep your hands in front, not near your knees, push your bum in as much as you can and slowly hunch your back like a pissed off cat bringing your head near your arms.Your arms remain straight and please don't push your body backwards, only your head, bum and back move.Count to eight slowly. Then very slowly begin to arch your back, pushing your bum out, pick up your head and chest as much as you can. Count slowly to eight.Repeat both exercises five times and do them when you wake up in the morning and before you sleep at night. The exercise reinforces the small muscles near your spine and causes the vertebrae to open enough for the disc to enter by itself. Continue doing cats,if you throw a disc once,it can always happen again, this exercise prevents you from having the same problem after a few months. Good Luck.

i've had alot of back strains over the years and i have luckily found ways to fix the problem for the most part. the best on one for me is to ly on my stomach and extend my arms out pushing myself up and it really gets into your lower back. stretching is always a good thing to do even if it doesn't necessarily get rid of your back pain. it may prevent it from getting worse or injuring something else. all athletes stretch to some extent to prevent injury and as we get older stretcvhing is very important. i try to lift a few weights and stretch every morning for a few minutes and i'm 52 and in good shape even though i could lose a few pounds but i'm working on that as well. good luck and keep stretching. if you have someone to rub a sports creme on it to that would help to keep it warm

Go see a chiropractor. They should be able to help you ease the suffering you have now and give you stretches/exercises to do to make sure it doesn't happen again. Do you drink water? If this is a muscle pain, drinking lots of water can help it, too.

It just takes time. When I hurt my back it usually takes a week to get better.

Try using ice packs (to ease the swelling), then a few hours later a heating pad, to relax the muscles.

the pain sounds like it is in your tailbone... because i have had exactly the same description of pain from when i fractured and dislocated my coccyx. if its causing you pain get an xray done... and sometimes physio or chiropractic work can help get things back to being good. chiro worked for my tailbone... but i know physio was the next suggestion, and for other back problems it has worked brilliantly. so ood luck!
