And pics are the best way to help identify, though it is not always possible. A thorough description and location would give more thorough answers, but pics would give accurate answers.

Good point j c, The logic of this question could apply to just about every category or sub-category.

How can people give accurate answers with so little to go by from the question.

I know! Pictures would be SOO helpful, and the location is VITAL! At least a general area, like southern California or upstate New York, you don't need to give us your personal info.. And some people's descriptions are so vague, its impossible to tell (like tell me what kind of turtle it is, its dark and has markings... that could apply to almost ANY turtle!)

Arghh! It gets me so AGGRAVATED!

In any area of life, it is frustrating to want to help, but be unable to because the asker is not meeting you half-way.

I 'love' the snapshots for turtles that are blurry cell phone photos of the top of a greenish roundish shell with no head or plastron image, or the snake descriptions of 'about three feet long, brown, with darker blotches'.

That is one of the weaknesses of this sort of site compared to a more interactive forum. Here, we have a hard time requesting more info and following up on issues, while in a more interactive forum (like http://www.turtleforum.com) people can get more focused and do more give and take.

Absolutely. Not all species are the same in every area. We cannot read their minds.
A city or state would help so much, otherwise, we can only give answers based on our geographic area which is not always correct. And you are right a picture would help a great deal as well.

It would be nice...but... either they don't think it's relevant or they have no way of distributing a photo.
And some think all species are the same and do not realize that they different in some way..even if they look similar..such as the king snake and rattle snake species.

Interesting question. I think it's funny when people ask questions about their local weather, and don't state where they live!
