I am lucky that I work for a bery underatnding employer that tolerates me being late in every day. I am late in every day because I suffer with IBS that plays up every morning and also during the day sometimes. I am forever running to the loo. If I was ever called for Jury Service I would always be late because of being stuck on the toilet and would always be interrupting the case to be excused. If I try and ignore it I end up in terrible pain. Have been to the Doctors and they can do nothing for me. Would this get me out of Jury Service as it's not really my fault.

My own father was called for jury duty some years before he died. Due to his condition he would have been more trouble than he was worth and he was excused after a visiti to the Court clerk. If I were you I would try to get a letter from your doctor explaining your problem and go to the Court office and ask to see the relevant official. These people are usually quite helpful in a genuine case

You must obtain a very candid note from your doctor explaining the seriousness of your condition and the likelihood that your presence on the jury would be very disruptive to court proceedings. You could back up the doctor's letter with one from your employer, explaining how seriously your condition disrupts your working day. No court is going to want somebody in your situation to sit on a jury. What's more, you couldn't run the risk of jury service where you were unable to turn up on time, as lateness would be viewed as contempt of court.

Your Dr can write you a letter that you attach to your Jury Duty form that will excuse you from Jury Duty. They may call you again and you may need to get a note again unless your Dr states in the note that this is permanent and you will never be able to perform Jury Duty.

Doctor's letter attached to your forms, or call the court office and ask them what they need to excuse you due to med condition.

You'd probably find there'd be plenty of breaks and adjournments etc. - usually start 9.45 then a break around 11/11.30 lunch anywhere between 12 and 2 maybe another break around 3.30 and more often than not finished for the day by 4! could be easier than being at work!

My sister got off jury duty because she was pregnant, so by producing a note from your doctor about your problem, you should be ok.

Your doctor should be able to provide you with a 'Sick Note' for the jury duty if you are unable to sit for that length of time.
