OK, Ive been on here for a while now, level 2. I have 500 something points. You can gain 2 points by answering peoples' open questions. You cannot answer resolved questions. You also get 3 points if you choose a best answer to a question you ask. But asking questions makes you lose 5 points. Easily made up 4 though! When you have a certain amount of points, you may gain a lvel. There are 7 levels, and everytime you gain a level you can answer more questions in a day. It would be better to look at the point chart thingy though. Good luck here, and welcome to Yahoo!7, fellow answerer! I starred you! (Gave you a star)

Oh and if your answer is chosen as best you get 10 points.

hi kiddy welcome 2 yahoo answers--> u get 10 or 5 points for answering questions and you LOSE 5 points for asking a question so be careful not 2 ask too many questions feel free 2 pick any of the catagory's that look interesting 2 u and start answering questions. also on the bottom u see a thumbs up and a thumbs down if u think a answer is good give a thmbs up and if the answer is down right rude give it a thumbs down
and where u see the star that's for if the question your reading is interesting if it's interesting give a star if not interesting leave it unstared.

I'm at work with nothing to do... Anyone that wants to email chat with me, just send me an email!

And points: Answer questions that you think you know the answer to. I typically don't answer questions that already have over 10 answers, because the odds are that someone has already put a good answer. The more best answers, the better! You get stars by asking questions that others find intriguing.

Welcome to Yahoo! Answers. Since I can see that you're new, I'll explain it for you.

Yahoo! Answers is a site where users post questions about anything and have their question showed to anyone interested from the entire Answers Community which extends accross the world. Anyone interested in the question may answer it, and those answers will be shown to you when you view your question from your profile, or they will be emailed to you if you select that option (a message will appear in your inbox from Yahoo! Answers that reads, "You have a new answer to your question!" Now here's the ins and outs:

Point System

In order to track each user's intelligence and usage, Y/A has created a point system with levels that is automated. Different actions bring different points as asking and answering questions is not the only you can do on Y/A. You get 100 points once for beginning participation

Ask a question: -5 points
Answer a question: 2 points
Delete an answer: -2 points
Choose a best answer: 3 points
Sign in to Yahoo! Answers: 1 point (once daily)
Vote for a best answer: 1 point
Vote "No best answer: 0 points
Write a Best Answer: 10 points
Receive a "thumbs-up" on your Best Answer: 1 point (up to 50)

Actions

Since you probably, do not know what these actions mean, I'll tell you.
>>>Choose a best answer: A question is not just meant to collect answers. In order for a question to be fully resolved, it must have a best answer. You are allowed 3-7 days after asking your question to choose one (I recommend waiting until a few hours or less before the question expires to choose one so I know everyone who wanted to answer did). >>>Vote for a best answer: If you can't choose one and the Open Question expires, it will become and Undecided Question and be turned over to the voters. Others (including you if you change your mind) will then have the chance to vote for the Best Answer. The one with the most votes becomes the Best Answer. If No Best Answer gets the most votes or if it is chosen while it's an Open Question, the question will be deleted. Once a Best Answer is chosen, it becomes a Resolved Question that is closed to new answers and modification.
>>>Write a best answer: If you answer a question and your answer is chosen or voted for as the best answer you receive 10 points, that statistic is trasferred to your best answer: other answer ratio in your profile, and your best answer stats in the category of the question you answered to your "Top Contributor" status.
>>>Receive a "thumbs-up" on your best answer: If you have a best answer, you can still receive points for it. If someone gives you a "thumbs-up" on your best answer, you receive 1 point. However, only 50 "thumbs-ups" are counted for points. Any additionals are just for rating.

Community Guidelines

Children as young as 13 are allowed to participate in Y/A, and because of that there are rules as to what you can say and do in Y/A. These rules are listed at the site below.

Stars

If you see a question that you think is interesting and needs to be shared with more people you can give it a star. It will then be more available for answers. If it receives enough stars it will be copied to the "Popular Questions" list on the homepage of Y/A (by the way, I gave you a star).

Watchlist

If you see a question that you would like to answer, but you are either too tired or gotta run, you can save it and come back to it later. To do this just go to the question and scroll over the plus sign in the toolbar and click, "Add to private Watchlist."

Profile

Every point you earn, question you ask, question you answer, item you save to your watchlist, question you star, etc. is saved in your profile. To view it, simply click, "My Profile" in the green toolbar or click on your avatar. Your profile, excluding your watchlist can be viewed by anyone in the Answers Community unless you make it private.

Contacts and Fans

If someone is impressed with more than one answer or question you wrote, they can add your profile to their contacts list. If you are one of someone's contacts, they are your fan and vice versa.

Communication

Y/A allows communication between Community members, if someone wants to email you, they can just go to your profile and click Email (your address is not publically displayed and the inbox shows the screen name and not the actaual name). The same applys with your IM and 360 account (except that your instant messenger identification IS publically displayed). If you don't want people to email or IM you, you can simply uncheck the info box, Allow users to contact via email, IM, etc. in your profile info.

Blocked Users

If someone has answered more than one of your questions in a way that disgusts or offends you, you can stop it; simply mouse over the avatar next to their answer and click "Block User." That person will be restricted from answering future questions of yours. If you change your mind, go to your profile and click "My Blocked Users" and remove them from the list.

If you spot an answer (or question) that you know is a violation of the Community Guidelines, do something about it; next to every question and answer there is a little blue flag, that says "Report Abuse." From that page, you can tell Y/A about the violation and they will take the appropriate action (anywhere from docking points to revoking the membership). Be careful though; if you wrongly accuse YOU could be reported.

Email a question

If you see a question that a Y/A friend would like to answer, email it to them. Go to the question and click the envelope button. Send it to whomever you choose. Again, your actual name will not be displayed in the message.

Signature

Signing questions is not necessary. Y/A does that for you with avatars.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to email me, but I think I covered everything.

You get points for answering questions and just by logging in, as to the stars those are given out by people whose questions you have answered and only if they think your answer is the best.
