Ok, recently my computer had a virus so to fix it me and my friend wiped windows after saving all of my stuff to a flash drive. We got everything working right again (internet, drivers, etc.) but one problem bothers and eludes me. We can't upload my files back because my computer won't read the flash stick (or any flash stick, even my camera card) through the USB ports. I checked "My Computer" and saw that it only has my hard drive (disc C) when it usually has a bunch of removable discs (a, b, g, h, whatever) since it doesn't have these I assume thats the problem. If that is the problem, how do I fix it? and if that isn't the problem, can anyone tell me what is and how I can fix it? Thanks a lot in advance

It appears that your version of Windows didn't support your removable / optical drives. It also appears that you don't have a "Driver" backup for the drives. This can usually be fixed in one of two ways. The first one that I would try is to switch off the PC. Open it and remove the optical drive then boot up. After fully booting, Shut Down and reinstall the optical drive. Reboot and if Windows has drivers to support the drive, it will automatically install them. Usually, Windows has "Generic" Drivers for most Hardware. If that fails, you will need to get the model number for your optical drive and go to the manufacturers site to download the necessary drivers. One other possibility is in your BIOS. When Booting up, keep pressing the "Delete" key until you enter your BIOS. You can then check if the BIOS recognises the drives. If the drives don't show in the BIOS it could mean something more serious such as a problem with the optical drive, the cables or even the motherboard

You need to load the USB drivers.
You can do this one or two ways:
a) go to the manufactures web site and download then install a driver for your camera or one of the flash drives.
b) use the software that came with the camera or flash drive.

You can plug in the device, right click on my computer, go to the menu selection: manager, go to devices in the left window, click on it. In the right window at the top right click on the name of the computer and select scan for new hardware.
Sometimes this works if the driver is on the system, if it doesn't have a driver you may get the option to search for it, if you do select internet (of course you have to be connected to the internet) and let the program search for a suitable driver.

Hope this helps........

Try reinstalling the Windows XP service pack 2

For some odd reason, on some mother boards, you have to go through Redmond to get your USB ports recognized

If sounds like you need to load the drivers for your motherboard. They should be on the disk that came with the board. If you don't have the disk you can download the driver set from the mobo's manufacturer's web site.

try right click on (my) computer

manage

device manager

right click on any device, click scan for hardware changes

also, look at the list, devices with missing drivers will be flagged, and you can use the properties window to load drivers as necessary.

also, try removing the device, and then rescanning, sometimes it will recognize the device on the second try and auto-install proper drivers.
