It's a 2000 Nissan Altima. again, it only happens on occasion when I press on the brakes at a certain pressure, I'm taking my car into the mechanic this weekend, but I just want to have some idea of what it could be before I get there.

Most likely you need front brake pads. Your brake pads have a wear indicator that will make a high pitched noise when braking and sometimes when turning corners. It is best to have your brake pads replaced ASAP, waiting can cause other problems, damage to your rotors costing more money to repair.

some brake pads come with a wear sensor that will make noise when the brake pad material gets thin. usualy it's a little tab of metal that makes contact with the rotors causing that noise.

also, if the brake pads arnt shimmed or lubricated correctly, they could vibrate against the brake rotor and that vibration sounds like squeaking. if you have had the brake pads replaced recently, this could be what it is.

good to see that you are taking the car in soon, brakes are something that shouldnt be taken lightly!

good luck

it's your worn out brake pads digging into your rotors. Not very safe to drive plus you'll probably be out some cash for rotor. By the way don't think all of the pads/shoes still have the material on them just because one or two does. all brakes wear differently.

If it is only doing it around curves it could be the squeekers they put on breaks to tell you when there low.

it could be a few things such as low brake pads, brake dust build up, if the noise is coming from the rear the end of the brake shoe is catching on the drum if its coming from front then low pads you can tell if your pads are low by examining the brake fluid level, if level low so are pads.

Number one! Your brake pads! You may have worn them out and they need replacing or it could be the anti-vibration clip has come loose and grinding on the disc. Or worst case your caliper is coming loose??? Hard to diagnose unless I can see it.

have you noticed if it happens more so when it rains?? it could be water in your brakes. If it just happens without any water being near it when you get your next oil change have them check it out so you don't have to pay extra for them to figure out what it is!

Dylan has the right answer

There are squeal tabs and they are starting to hit.

Get new pads on there.

if the pads are still good, have them clean and lubricate all metal to metal contact areas, make sure all shims are in place and replace the pad hardware.
