I am one of the 40 + million Americans with out health insurance. I think that the only people the government wants to help are the rich. I am at proverty level and I barely make ends meet, I also have two children on in which in disable. All the government has to say to us is we don't qualify for health insurance and tell us to call private agencies that want an arm and leg for issurance. I think that if the rich stop buying what they don't need and help those that need it we all would be fine. Also if the government will stop wasting money, that would help. I watch a movie and one of the lines was, who needs a 40,000 dollar toilet seat. If we are the richest country then why can't every american get the help the need rich and poor alike.

I was one of the 40 million until just this past month. Then I decided I would do the responsible thing and BUY, yes buy health insurance. Health insurance is not a right. It is something that must be paid for by someone and I for one do not want the government doing that. I also agree with the guy who thinks Americans need to stop being fat, lazy, gluttonous slobs. Get off your ***, go to work and then you'll be able to afford health insurance. Most of those 40 million probably don't have jobs and contribute very little to society so I have no real problem letting them die off. Thanks and have a nice day.

The problem is that health insurance is way too expensive. It would cost me over $800 a month to get it through my employer. As for the person that said, "why should everyone else have to pay for someone elses medical expenses" (or something to that effect), the fact is, you already are paying. You're premiums are high because the cost of people having to show up at an emergency room for non-emergencies are passed along to you. I know someone who did just that and received a bill for over $4000. I know she can't afford that and the hospital will most likely write that bill off over time. So the cost of hospital care increases because of these write offs. When this happens the insurance companies pay more for their customer's medical care and of course the cost is passed along in higher premiums.
The medical system in our country is pathetic. Last year, the state of Pennsylvania expanded the CHIP program to include free medical care (through Blue Cross) for every child in the state regardless of their income. You can make $10,000 a year or $1,000,000 a year and your children qualify. This should be extended to every person and not just children. Of course, I'm sure how I'll hear how our taxes will increase drastically. Well, so far mine haven't increased at all since this new program has been in place. And so long as they don't increase by the $800 I would have to pay in premiums per month, than I'm all for it.

the 40 million figure is exagerrated.
Let us say I work at Zales, then leave to work for Microsoft. In the 30 days of my transfer to set up health insurance at microsoft, i do not have "health insurance", even though programs like COBRA protect me and my family. Then, after 30 days at microsoft, I have health insurance. I am one of those 40 million that is counted.
Let us say that I am 22 years old. Insurance will cost about 85 a month for cataclasamic insurance, with the first 1500 cost in meds beinb out of my own pocket. Most likely I will get sick once this year and require antibiotics. The doctor visit costs me 100, and the meds cost me 200, for a total of 300. 85 a month, and me eating the meds, means that I have to eat 1020 + 200 meds + copay (35). It costs me almost 1000 more to be insured to meet my medical needs. Further, most likely if I am in a major medical need, it will occur while I travel in my car. If I am traveling to and from work, workers comp takes the cost, and if it is for leisure driving, my car insurance has coverage. So, many young people who do not want the costs of insurance choose to not have insurance.
Then you have people who have a pre-existing condition, like liver disease or hep c. They are going to die from live rfailure, that is a guarantee. Why should an insurance company cover that person, especially when Medicade, SSI, and Medicare already meet the need for that person?
When you eliminate the bogus fluff from job transfer, those who do not want it, those who have a pre-exsiting condition and are covered by Medicare, Medicade, and/or SSI, you get a figure colser to about 9-12 million.
With a population (adding in non-citizens including legal and illegal aliens) of 300 million, you are talking about a massiave overhaul to meet the needs of less than 5% of the population at a major cost to 95% of the population.
In response to sweetpea, part of the motivation to go out and get a job is to provide for your family. If you are in poverty, either go get a better paying job, or start your own business. I started my own business when I had $33 in the bank to my name, and now I have a 1,000,000 annual revenue business after eight years of hard work.
And the 40,000 dollar military toilet seats.....that is how the government hides CIA budgets (the CIA budget comes from the Department of Defense, but it is a secret budget. Therefore they inflate common purchases in the DoD for the sake of hiding the expenses.)

I am one of these people with no med coverage. It really sucks being sick or hurt and not being able to recive treatment. When your knee is swollen so bad that you can bairly walk and the ER tells you about a free health clintic that is open oence a month for two hrs,And wile your at the ER you see welfare Bob from down the street getting his ingrown toenail removed wile his wife is having their fourth child. This really made me mad.Wile I work for a living this guy just sits at home and does and sells drugs and has sex with his wife all day, probly just trying to have another kid so they can get more money.I am a US ARMY vet and I have been trying to get medical through the VA for a few months now and they sure do take their time.Maybee some day the Va will come through to help me,or maybee I will get benafits at work.I really think that welfare should take care of people who work first and take care of the lazy people last.

Find a job that offers Health coverage! Saying that you are a working man and then crying since 7 Eleven doesnt offer health coverage is retarded. Find a real job. Not a job that was meant for a part time student or someone making extra cash. Working at the mini mart is not a career, nor should other jobs like that be providing health care. You can find many simple jobs such as Wal-Mart, or any other large chain companies that all have coverage.

I have health insurance...I only payed $25 for a $550 emergency room bill... Republicans stand for Accountability... people need to become more responsible. Instead of having the latest gadgets when you are stretching to make ends meet is poor judgement. Instead, put the money used for satelite tv and HDTV toward health insurance. You are an idiot to rely on others for your own well being.

My thoughts?
A nation with an 8 trillion dollar deficit cannot afford to pick up the insurance bills for 40 million people.

What's your specific question? Yeah, this is a great country. The number of uninsured Americans at 40 million is overestimated; where did you get this data - from a pro-nationalized (Socialized) health care website? We have one of the highest standards of living on earth, but so many people are willing to trade their freedoms and standard of living for empty promises of security from politicians and government bureaucrats. What a shame and a sham!

If we put all government employees (Elected or Appointed) on the same health care plan as them 40+ million people, all that would change in less time it takes them to vote themselves a raise.
