We all agreed to disagree and debate sensibly over this after we all had a mass cyber brawl and got about 100 violations each last month!
Name calling stopped and we listened to what each debator had to say.
The only thing the majority all agree on is that they neglected their children by leaving them...after this it all goes pear shaped with talk about money, class, colour, aunt Philomena, speculation etc etc...thats what divides people on here, its not that the pro McCanns support leaving young children alone, thats not it at all. I could count on one hand the amount of people who have said it was ok to leave kids at that age. Its comments like McCann lovers, McCann fan club think its ok to leave your kids that causes the problems. It the witch hunt.
Lets clear this up.
If you agree the McCanns were neglectful to leave their children yet you are called a pro McCann, whats your reason for opposing the 'antis'
My problem is most of the comments are not based on fact.

Hi Miss Principle - it was not a mistake, it was serious neglect of parental duties, and most people agree with that. What I don't agree with is blaming them for being white british and middle class, because that IS NOT a crime.

Thank Heavens for you Lexy!
Sorry i'm so late...but just have to say i so agree with you.
Have gone hoarse saying that we i & a few others do not condone leaving the babies unattended at any point, but just don't stoop to vilifying the McCanns every consequent move.
Its like dislike for Gerry & his mannerisms & blog have taken over and led to losing any objectivity in this whole sad situation.
So good to have you around...xxx

It gets way beyond a joke sometimes. I thought the idea of a debate was to hear both sides and if there were no one disagreeing with the hot heads who scream neglect then there would be no debate. For all anyone else care I could be very anti the McCanns but arguing the oppisite just to argue the opposite People will always answer even the sickest posts, even if it is just to tell the sicko's they are sick and the sickos will post more because someone is responding to them. I remember a really bad one about Kate McCann once that had around 40 replies, and the worst was not everyone was disagreeing. If a sicko gets one sicko replying, they are going to repeat themselves. Sad but true.

I am not pro mcCann as it is being referred to, I can however see the human error side of things and cannot see it as more than that. I think they made a bad choice but no court in the land would say it was neglect and if there is a lawyer about who can convict them then they are worth millions. Social services would not touch the family with a ten foot pole, I have dealt with them and know that this would have no chance of constituting neglect. For it to be that, the parents would have to have left them to come to significant harm and 3 sleeping children being regularly checked would not fit the bill. perhaps in light of this the laws do need changing, what a shame though. I am sorry for all those who disagree, maybe they should put as much energy into changing the law to suit their opinion instead of slating the parents for not giving one........and me as I say duck!
The worst time was when lots of folk were saying they should be jailed etc...I mean come on
Ladybugs, I have both worked with and dealt with Social services and in the UK it would not be the same. There is no way in the world Social services wolud have gone in and woken 3 children from one place of safety to another supposed one, they would have possibly gone into the resturant and called for the parents and asked how they were supervising their children. And if a babysitting service actually offered less than their ability to check their kids then Social would have walked away satisfied, It may not be right according to many parents, but it is not wrong either i'm afraid.
Noone prepared for an abduction, which if premeditated would have occured regardless of every safety measure you could think of.

Because a child is missing, probably dead, that stirs up strong feelings.
It isn't right to be abusive and everyone has the right to their own opinions (Including us so called antis), i guess emotion just gets the better of us sometimes, and that includes me.
As for comments not being based on fact, well i believe there are many facts that the Mcann supporters wish to ignore. If those people would accept and debate those issues, we would have less childish name calling.
For example i have never read a comment from the Mccann supporters about the huge number of people that Gerry allowed to "search" Madeleine's room, why not? That statement came from the Portuguese police, not some cyber ghost journo.

I am not "Pro-McCann" as I do feel that there was serious neglect in this case. I am not "Anti-McCann" either, as until there is evidence of anything I don't believe that conspiracy theories are of any use and if there is something darker going on, it's not my job to speculate what it is. I do, however, have concerns about the amount of PERSONAL publicity Gerry seems to be generating, I object to their not being a balanced viewpoint in the media regarding this case and the fact that the fund is a private company instead of a charity concerns me too.
I have no objection to a balanced, reasoned debate on the issue, (isn't that what answers is here for?), but I am sick to death of being reported simply because my views do not match someone else's.
So, instead of being "pro" or "anti" the McCanns, I consider myself to be Pro-Maddie, as she has been my concern throughout this whole case.

It was reading all the abusive and sometimes unbelieveble posts between the 2 "camps" that prompted me to ask my question yesterday...I beleive MOST of the contributors to this debate are probably good people, just with strong feelings, thats all. But Ive also noticed a lot of very spitefull trolls on here who appear to single people out to try to riducule, Im also aware of the "theft" of identities of some postes by these trolls. I think its those things that only inflame the posters on here, and has a knock-on affect.
I posted here that I have a personal reason for my interest in this case, but that Im reluctant to divulge what that is. Its because of the abusive posts here that Im wary of saying more about my interest, for fear of reprimands and scoffing from certain people. If I were to post some of the things I know, then those cruel posters would "taunt" me, Im sure, and I dont want to be in a position where I cant ask questions or views on this case, because of the actions of a few trolls.
Its very sad that we cant be a little more polite when disagreeing? We may all learn a lot more.

I do agree the mccanns were neglectful for leaving there child in the way they did.
My problem with those who are often described as the Anti,s is the following.
1. SOME do not contain there comments to the McCanns neglect re leaving the Child.
2. SOME make rash, often very nasty comments about the McCanns involvement in the actual abduction.
3. Everything the Mccanns do to raise awareness about there missing child is reduced to the level of being a big cash con
4. SOME slag off other members of the family, including the grandparents.
5. SOME are so high up on the moral high ground that it makes me feel sick.
6. SOME are so judgemental they make me feel sick
7. SOME show a total lack of compassion
8 SOME try to justify their ranting hatred and wild accusations by saying they want justice.
9. SOME have turned there ranting posts into a full time obsession.
And lastly, and this applies to all of them, outside of the McCanns clearly being neglectful in leaving there child, not one of them has one shred of PROOF about anything else that they accuse the McCanns of.
Just wild often nasty and hateful speculation.
Edit.
God, I need to go back and read my post on Hot coals etc lol

I feel that this topic will carry on as many people are angered at the lack of intervention by authorities in regards to the child abuse which happened ...
People will respond in all types of ways .. I do not believe we will ever unite as the mccann case is highly problematic ...
The division is on both sides and yesterday there was a posting saying all anti mccanns needed therapy ...
There are many nasty comments on both sides and i guess that is human nature and as there are two sides to this there will always be disagreement

I think it is the usual trap that people fall into of blaming the victim/s. Yes there is a certain amount of truth in what people are saying about leaving the three young children, I certainly would not have done so. What I don't understand is the constant ' whipping to death' of these unfortunate parents.
Another agenda maybe!
One thing it certainly keeps them in the spotlight which is not a bad thing and is raising awareness that we should never never leave very young children unattended. It's just too risky today.

I Agree, The McCanns should never have left children of that age, and had it happened over here i'm sure that the family in question would have had the children taken away from them.
I do sympethise with them, loosing a child in such a way must be a Heart Wrenching Loss, and i'm sure they will be blaming themselves more than any one else ever could.
But I just cant get it out of my mind that they left a Three year old and 2 Babies alone in a strange place?! That to me is Negelect and totaly unforgivable.
As much as I hate to say it, they have only themselves to blame!
