It's cultural conditioning. When you see a uniform, ANY uniform, you are trained to react in certain ways.
The classic example is that many non Catholics feel a pang of guilt when they see a nun. Or people feel a surge of patriotism when they see a fresh faced young soldier in a crisp uniform.
Or when I see a firefighter I think "Did I turn the stove off at home?" That might just be me though.

Your feelings are normal. Many police officers are power hungry, gun heavy fascists who love to intimidate people, especially the young, weak and minorities. Of course, we have brought this on ourselves as a society by asking our criminal justice system to be the guardians of all morality, but that still doesn't excuse their behavior.
Here are some simple rules to help you in your dealings with the police:
Remember, they are people too, and some are actually very conscientious and courteous. Assume the best when dealing with them, and treat them with courtesy and respect. Say yes, sir or ma’am. Don’t look away and fidget.
When pulled over in a car, an additional set of rules apply. As soon as you realize that you are being pulled over, put on your hazard lights. This is a simple way of acknowledging that you see them. Slow to below the speed limit, but not too slow. If it is nighttime, turn your interior lights on (after you have put the joint out). Also at night, if you can find a well lit, populated area without going to far out of the way, that is appreciated and good for you too. Find a safe place to pull over, hopefully away from traffic. Just pulling over to the side of a busy highway will put you both at risk, and should be avoided unless there are no alternatives.
By extending these considerations to the police, they will be far more likely to reciprocate and extend them back to you.

Police officers are alot different than they use to be. They did serve and protect, now many of them use their job title and uniforms to impress people to date them, and free food. They believe that you can be not nice at all to the public and the public has to like them anyway because they wear a uniform. There is very little respect for the tax payer who pays their pay check.

Emotional reactions, e.g., fear, joy, sadness, are often programmed in early childhood, then reinforced throughout our lives. When you were a little girl, an adult, in whose care you were, e.g., parent, uncle, aunt, may have countered your unruly public behavior, by some reference to a police officer, who happened to be about. They may have advised you, it is their job to take-away children who misbehave. The police officer, with good intention, may have played along.
Most young children, when posed with the prospect of being taken away, respond by altering their behavior as required. The adult views his or her action, as an effective way of controlling the child's behavior, and continues to wield the threat as needed, not realizing, they are emotionally abusing the child.
This emotional response, to the presence of a police officer, is differential to a cognitive response, e.g., an adolescent, upon viewing a police officer in the park, may opt to dispose of the beer in their possession, and discontinue the prohibited skate boarding. The adolescent's choices, could very well be purely pragmatic, totally devoid of fear.

Maybe you heard of some cases where the police officers were not playing the good role. Or maybe your friends influence you.
Or else - (I hope not) you are thinking of doing something wrong? Or protecting someone who did?
