I feel the same way as you. It is the fear of rejection. You don't want to be sitting next to people who do not like you and will make fun of you. You are stuck in class with these people for a full year. I would rather be first to class choose a seat and have people sit around or next to me. It's just awkward because you wonder what people will think about you if you sit next to them. I would say to overcome this don't worry about all of that stuff life is too short just sit where ever you want to. If it doesn't work out change seats.

I always used to sit in the same place at school, but when im on a bus I always wonder if people are going to sit next to me and I hate having to sit next to someone who is already sat down just in case they dont want me sitting there.
Really I think people like being chosen to sit next to, so try not to worry!

If this is your biggest problem right now you're doin' great.
About sitting, I'm sure half of no one cares if you sit next to them, unless you really are annoying. Everyone understands that you have to sit where you can and it's first come first serve.
If you're worried about it, start sitting in the same seat over and over. Over time people will know that that is where you sit, if they don't want to sit next to you, they wont sit by "your" seat.

well when i walk into a meeting and i turn up late there is often very few seats so you have to sit next to someone as i walk in i just try to make eye contact with someone if they look and smile sit next to them that's it if they dont look well i dont have horrific body odor as far as i know so sitting next to me for an hour or so isn't gonna hurt

The first thing that you can do is stop being so self-absorbed. You've just spent seven lines telling us that you don't like to sit next to strangers. It's not your world.
When my son went to his first class in a new school when he was 14, he sat by the window and looked out. A girl came over and asked, "Why are you sitting by yourself?"
He said, "I like windows."
You gotta be a cat.

well, I'm more comfortable sitting with my friends. If in a room of strangers, then yeah usually I'll just choose an empty spot with no one around and sit there.
If I were to start avioding my friend, then I'd be concern about it. But as far as sitting with strangers, it doesn't really bothers me.

you are not alone in this thought. but the only way to overcome this, is to just do it. they might not like you, but by you sitting next to them and making an effort, they might realise your not a bad person, and you guys could end up being friends. you never know, your life might turn into one of those movies. where the girl is forced to sit next to this jerk and they end up falling in love.. ahahaha

I hate it when on a bus a stranger sits next to me. It makes no difference weather they are a gorgeous hunk or a little old lady, it freaks me out.

Life is too short to waste time on all the "what ifs". Sit anywhere you like.Do whatever you feel is right. If someone doesn't like it, others will do. We can't please everyone in this world. And those who try it, usually end up playing a role instead of being themselves
