Have you learned to meditate yet? My Methodist Sunday school teacher used to say that prayer was talking to God, and meditation was listening to God. In fact, what you are listening to is the inside of your own head, as well as any subtle sounds that leak through even though you are not paying attention to them.

My own psychic style is Tarot, which relys on a set of symbols rather than having no external stimulus. So I don't know how well my advice will apply to other systems. Palmistry, astrology, numerology, all have some external stimulus, so perhaps the system is the same.

I start by pulling myself into the moment, neither pushing forward nor pulling back, in a brief centering which is not really meditation, but the same thing I do when I meditate. Sit up straight as possible, make sure my head is balanced on my spine, shoulders comfortably balanced. Visualize those huge seated statues of ancient Egyptians, where all the lines of the body are symmetrical and well balanced. In such a position, I am able to tune to any subtle clues that come my way. Examples may be the way my client (the person I am reading) is breathing, whether they are able to sit quietly and pay attention or whether they seem to have expectations of how the reading will take place.

As I put down the cards, I tell what I see initially, that card in that particular position. I then go back and discuss the relationship of one card to another, of major arcana to minor arcana, and so on. This is largely an intellectual function, but I must be aware of any subtle cues in either my client or myself which emphasize the significance of a particular card. For example, if I put down a card which the client is likely to take as negative, I listen for an intake of breath, a non-verbal sound like a grunt or groan, a tisk, that sort of thing.

I do not believe that there is some supernatural thing called psychic ability. I believe it is something anyone can learn. An ability to focus, a willingness to take the time to learn the symbol system used in great detail, and a lot of practice.

Well I first learned to meditate. Then I learned about dreaming and aligning my chakras. Also diet effects me as does exercise and rest. I eat a vegan diet and exercise every day, to be physically strong enough to tolerate the next phase, channeling.

I believe it is different for everyone. For me it isn't a clear vision. It is a flash that is often out of context with what is going on--like a mental flicker. I don't know how to explain it better.

Learning how to recognize it when it happens and how to trigger it (still workin' on that). What triggers it is also important.

For me solitude seems to help for some reason.
